Love these cameras
I've had an older version (the DCS-942L) for three years and I just added another camera (DCS-936L), this one in the garage. The first camera, which is aimed at my French doors in the living room, was easy to install and almost problem free. I use the phone app to check in on my dog when she is home alone. I can also pull out the SD card and look at footage to see how active she was during my time away. Hear a funny noise downstairs late at night? Just pull out your phone and quickly check the camera in that part of the house.I set my cameras to record all the time (not just motion detection) and occasionally the record function will stop working. Just like your computer, if you reset the camera and reformat your SD card, everything works perfectly again. This has only happened twice in 3 years and I haven't had any trouble with the camera overwriting the card when it is full, unlike another, more expensive system I have for outdoors.I don't know if it possible to hack these type of cameras since it is sending a Wi-Fi signal, but just to be safe, I point the cameras at a part of the house that gets little foot traffic. That's just me being overly cautious. The sound quality is excellent and it is possible to tell what is happening off-camera from the sounds.Excellent camera for the price and any easy way to check on your house when you are away or on an extended trip. The phone app works great as well and the new camera I just added was quickly recognized and installed in about 5 minutes.Worth the money for your peace of mind.

Best indoor camera for under $100
This is the best indoor camera that I found for under $100. There is no monthly or yearly fees. It has a micro sd card slot so you can record and remotely play back videos. You can set it up to notify you for sound and motion activity (you can adjust the levels for triggering). The sound quality is very good. I have had it for several months and I have never had an issue connecting to it remotely. The app is pretty straight forward and easy to use. You can turn the power led light off. It does make a fairly loud clicking sound when it switches back and forth from night vision mode. You can take pictures remotely. I ended up buying a second one I liked it so much.

ability to ignore the apps attempts to scan/automatically do "stuff" or manually configure or access the camera without the use
I have been attempting to get this camera onto my wifi network for the past 2 hours. I was able to get it connected once...I think (after I killed most of the security on my router) however the "My Dlink Lite" app constantly failed to connect to the camera after I put in my network information. The power light on the camera went green and I saw the camera on my router status window however I have no idea what I need to do to see/use the camera. I assume the D-Link app is supposed to provide some directions once the camera is on the network however since the application has failed every time I am at a loss. The documentation is severely lacking and it is insulting that D-Link thinks it is acceptable to have the documentation for this camera consist of "Download phone app, scan QR code, follow instructions". There are no troubleshooting avenues, ability to ignore the apps attempts to scan/automatically do "stuff" or manually configure or access the camera without the use of this painful phone app. I even looked at how you update firmware in case this could be an issue and this is one instruction from D-Link " Log-in camera web UI and enter setup/Maintenance/Firmware upgrade ". How do I access the web UI? The IP alone in a browser didn't work for me (the one time I did get the green light which is now escaping me again since I hit the reset button). I am very disappointed with this purchase, but since I am a glutton for punishment I will keep at this for awhile. I recommend going with another brand if you are looking for a camera.

Mostly good product
After using them for three weeks, here are my observations on this product:The Good:Camera image quality and ease to use. Mount is good and it just works. They left the embedded web access so if you are an advanced user, you can create your own dynamic dns and route the port instead of using their crappy mydlink site. The not so good:mydlink cloud site is a hit or miss. Browser plugins incompatible. embedded web plugin incompatible (as of 04/08/2017 since Firefox dropped many plugins and Chrome is not recognized for the plugins). The page/controls to watch the recordings are a bit clunky. Also there is no Windows program that allows you to watch many cameras on the local network (although you can get those free IP cam software and get them working). The bad:While it shows to support Android, IOS and Windows App, the Windows App just crashes all the time. The IOS version works fine and I have not tried the Android.Other commentsOnce you get everything working, you are set. There is a bit of frustration on learning the controls. The app has little control, and the web interface is difficult because of the plugins. Otherwise, Image quality is excellent and live view even from a cell phone with poor signal still gives you good image view.

Doesn't hold wifi signal
Relatively easy to set-up, working out of the box. However it doesn't hold the wifi signal. This results in disconnection which defeats the purpose of the item. You have to plug it back in. Maybe Someone at D-link can explain why. I have seem many similar comments on D-Link cameras and smart plug from other people online. Nothing in the troubleshoot section resolves the issue. I have other cameras and wifi devices in the house from other brands and this is the only on that doesn't hold wifi. Set-up were similar nothing for me to set-up in my router so I can only conclude the camera is the problem not the router. I will point out that I used the device app to set-up but use it with a NAS as part of a surveillance system. I have to return it.
