Will these work in drywall?

These can't be used on drywall; its not strong enough to support a climber. They need to be installed on the back side of a sheet of plywood for ideal support. We also offer concrete mounting anchors for solid concrete wall applications.

what size drill bit should I use for these t-nuts 3/4 playwood?

7/16 is *very* tight and difficult to align for the first hammer swing. Actual OD is approx 15/32 (0.468 _/- 0.02). If you can get your hands on an 11.5mm or 29/64 bit, that would be ideal.

Don't have a 7/16" bit. Will 1/2" hole be too large?

No, i used 1/2” and it was fine. The thicker the material the better though. I used some 1/2” plywood i had on hand, and that was as thin as i would go. But it was for a wall for my 3yo, so it wasnt an issue.

Are these made for 3/8 plywood? Would it effect the installation if I used 5/8 plywood?

I’d recommend against it for two reasons: 1, the barrel would barely be flush with the surface of the plywood and 2, if it’s for climbing on, 5/8” plywood isn’t nearly as strong / rigid as 3/4”.
