OXO Steel Vertical Lever Corkscrew with Removable Foil Cutter

I open a lot of wine bottles, well over 400 a year (no I don't drink *all* of them by myself). I have an electric opener (3rd one) a rabbit style with the opposing levers to grip the bottle (5th one) and have had and own countless angel and traditional (jack-knife style) corkscrews. I like the electrics, but they just don't last more than about a year. The other rabbit styles (using a plier like grip on the bottle) I've owned are wonky, eventually jam and/or need to be repaired, but even in use typically require more force than a simple angel opener. A well made angel style opener (good luck finding one) is nice but can still require a bit of finesse to remove the cork fully. While jack-knife style openers are traditional, very reliable and relatively easy to use, many folks are uncomfortable with them (they require practice to use well) and misuse can result in minor injury. THIS opener is awesome AND comes with the best foil cutter I've ever seen integrated in the opener (which means you aren't searching around for it). At first I was concerned that the device didn't come with a stand, but it rests upright just fine on its own. The action is smooth and requires little force. The design has you holding the neck of the bottle in your hand, not inches away on the end of a grip like the plier style "rabbit" as well as applying the force directly into remove the cork. This makes for a much better presentation when opening the wine in front of someone. Examination of the design and other reviews lead me to believe this opener will last a long time. I've been opening wine bottles using various devices (some not actually designed for the purpose) for over 40 years. This is my favorite opener ever.

I guarantee this is the best wine opener you will ever use. Drinking bottles of wine over decades, I have used many wine openers. 10 years or so ago we had this great wine opener, but eventually it failed. We have tried others and they have all been a disappointment. You know, difficult getting through the cork, almost impossible to get the cork off the cork screw, etc. When my wife complained again, I decided to try something else and chose this one. My wife thinks I'm a genius. It is so easy and so perfect (having just opened another bottle) even though I bought it months ago, I had to tell you it is the best, easiest, perfect wine bottle opener I have used. You won't be disappointed!

We've tried a variety of wine openers - manual and battery operated - and this unit from OXO is hands down our favorite. Learn how to operate it (which is easy) and it will never fail to remove the cork cleanly the first time and every time. I liked it so much I bought several as Christmas gifts for friends and family. Solidly built and includes an extra cork screw but I can't imagine needing that anytime soon. Love the way the foil cutter fits into the unit, works and looks great.

I had to replace an aging corkscrew of this design that I loved but it was no longer available :( OXO is a good brand and I hoped this one would be a good replacement. Within the first 5 bottles, I bent the screw part. Not sure what happened (thought about sending it back) but it comes with a replacement screw in went that one and I've been using it for about a year and a half, 3-5 bottles a week. I do like the foil cutter that has a storage place. It works well and is better than my last one which also worked well but I had to dig around in the drawer for it. When this one gives up the ghost, I'll but another one of this style (sorry, Rabbit, I'm done with you) but I may try another brand. Maybe not, that'll be a gametime decision. This one is pretty good. Switch to another style. No.

Got this for my aging sister in law who loves her wine but didn't love wrestling with the corks. This is so simple and fast and requires almost no physical effort. Zip-zap-zoom, the lever drives the screw into the cork and then lifts it out. Comes with foil cutter that snaps onto the base.

I hate the old corkscrew openers where you need to pull endlessly to open the bottle . I figured that anything by OXO would be a workhorse and last a long time but sadly , barely a year after purchase , the opener broke and we are occasional, once a week kind of users . It did do a great job while it worked but I would absolutely NOT recommend this based on how brittle and fragile this is . Please avoid and buy a different brand . This experience has shattered our faith in OXO

I have had a number of modern cork screws with varying degrees of success. I tried this one because it had good reviews and I like it. One secret is to make certain the lever goes up slightly the other side of centre as there is a slightly tight spot at the top. By going right over centre, it removes the cork successfully and with much less effort than the Rabbit type units. The foil cutter works well too.
