The Forager’s Garden

Vague
This book, just as other permaculture books I have ever bought, is very wordy and vague...It really is about nothing that any person with common sense wouldn't know already...I was hoping for a book that would really go into depth on available perennial veggies that I was not aware of and one that had amazing diagrams on how to plant them with complimentary plants and amazing receipes... Nope...boring...Some of the best books I have read are with Richard Huws and Charles Dowding...and I have found amazing perennial veggie plants on YouTube...Save your money unless you just want to hear about left agenda propaganda...

Language used...
Though there's useful info. in there - I was struggling with her use of language and my book is pretty defaced now (as I crossed through the word "pandemic" or the word "crisis" that she kept using any time she meant "Lockdown"). So I've got that word "pandemic" crossed out a noticeable number of times and replaced it with writing "Lockdown" instead. Boy - can I ever tell when she wrote this book and won't be buying any more written by her whilst Lockdown continues - as part of why I do gardening is to get away from the current state of our society (ie that Lockdown being imposed on us all). Her political beliefs should not be leaking into this and it did spoil the book for me.

A solid foundation
I brought Anna's book in preparation for her 'design your foragers garden' course. I have found the book very informative. It is teaching me the foundations of permaculture whilst also practically outlining how to design and develop my own garden. I feel sure it will be my 'go to' source of information as I transform my garden using the principles of permaculture. Her writing style is encouraging and conversational, it makes you want to get out there and start planting whilst also being academic and instructive. Her course 'design a foragers garden' which is worth taking to reinforce the ideas in the book, is affordable and and run from a picturesque site 10 mins east of Hastings. I found it to be well planned and executed, fun and at the end of the day you walk away with a physical garden plan/map and a head full of ideas. Highly recommended.

This book is brilliant for newbie permaculture designers and foragers
I absolutely loved this book and will keep returning to it for plant and design advice. It’s a must have guide for anyone that’s starting out on the Permaculture Design Course, or for anyone that wants to learn how to maximise their growing space and create an eco-system that provides an abundance of food. There’s lots of plant examples for different requirement such as nitrogen fixers, pollinators, bio activators and loads more. I give this book five stars.
