No - must go clockwise by time - major learning deficit.

Does this clock tell the time on it's own? I mean can you use it as an active clock when not setting learning? Does it make noise when not played with

YES, you can set the correct time to be displayed when you are not playing the games. And a good thing this clock does not talk all day long! There is an Off setting for when you are done playing, but the digital time stays displayed.Also a +... It comes with battries too!

Do both hands move forward and backward?

The small hand; or the hour hand you cannot move it manually, it will move with the minute hand. The minute hand you can move manually both forward and backwards.
