Great insights not only of an athlete
I started to know Michael Schumacher on TV as a child. Glorious victories and successive championships in the Ferrari dominating era by him simply made me a fan of him, the Prancing Horse and formula 1.This book revealed a comprehensive story, including the darker side of him that I have seldom heard of, of Michael Schumacher from a professional formula 1 journalist James Allen. It is essentially insightful as chapters are unfolded from a paddock view, depicting those people in the sport and their relationship which are hardly known by a Formula 1 fan.

insightful and informative
I've read a lot of racing books but this is easily one of the best. Superbly written and edited. Lots of information that explains how and why of the controversial events that fill Schumacher's career. A must read.

Great Read for any F1 Fan! James was fair with the whole Schumacher fiasco, especially in Jerez.I purchased this book in 2009 and just had a chance to read it!

A must read for the F1 enthusiast.
The Authur James Allen has given the reader a well researched in depth look at one of the greatest F1 drivers to grace theworld stage. The book gave the reader an enthralling insight into Michael's F1 Journey and the people that assisted him along the way.I found this book an excellent read.Christopher Hardy Melbourne Australia

Meh
I expected more from James Allen to be honest. I read a lot from his web site and that is pretty decent for the most part but this has put me off buying any of his other stuff. I like some of his analysis points but for the most part it's just a boring chronology with very little flare and VERY uninspired writing.

Excellent and fair biography of a controversial super star
Well written biography of one of the greatest Formula 1 drivers. Allen provides insight into the character of Schumacher and some of his ruthless and un-sportsman-like actions. I'm a fan of Formula 1 and Schumacher, but can't forgive some of his racing actions. This book is am must read for Formula 1 fans whether or not they are a fan of Schumacher.

Must read for any Schumacher fan
Definitely a must for any Schumacher fan, or F1 fan in general. Touches on some of the more controversial moments as well.

A must for fans of formula one
This book has been written about Michael Schumacher. Some of the contributions are far from complimentary to the man himself. In spite of this he has himself made a lot of contributions to the book which is enlightening. I would say this is a must to read for anybody who is interested in formula one and in particular the area around the turn of the century when Schumacher was at his peak. Obviously it was written before the tragic skiing accident so we shall never know what else he may have got up to.Hamilton Blade

Unbiased look at one of the most famous F1 drivers
This is an intresting overlook into Michael's career in Formula 1, as well as some of the observations about the man behind the helmet. I was quite young in the 90's, so a lot of the detail of that period is lost to me, so it was intresting to look back as an adult on what I couldn't understand as a child. It covers pretty much is whole first career from his time in Beneton to his 'retirement' from Ferrari. It's intresting to look at some of the obersvations about some of the more contraversal area's of this career, and how this ruthless desire to win at all costs sometimes went overboard/ However, the book seems unbiased, so we read about some of the 'softer' and 'kinder' sides of Michael that were lesser shown and known. This book provides a good overview for fans and critics alike. Definately worth a read.

Excellent unbiased read
Having read James Allen's first book on Schumacher called 'Driven to Extremes', this book picks up nicely from that (albeit with a bit of overlap). Without prejudice, it provides a great read of the man himself without prejudice and explains further why he was so successful during the first half of the 2000's.Anyone buying this should bear in mind it was published after his first retirement at the end of the 2006 season so doesn't cover his comeback with Mercedes in 2010-2012. Nonetheless, if you're an F1 fan or a Schumacher fan, it's well worth a read.

Outstanding.
This is a great book, not so much a biography more a psychological dissection of Schumacher, if, like me, you are a follower of Formula One and particularly if you can remember the man and his career this work will offer answers to why he took some of the decisions he did and also help to understand not just him but the Formula One driver (perhaps all who race and compete) in general. It certainly helps to differentiate between the winner and the mere participant.Highly recommended.
