Cortland 444 Peach 6wt Floating Line – Quick Review
The Cortland 444 Peach in 6wt is a classic for a reason. It casts beautifully—super smooth through the guides with a nice, even taper that loads the rod perfectly. Presentation is clean and accurate, making it great for dry flies and lighter nymph rigs. Floats high, mends easily, and has that signature supple feel that holds up in a range of temps. A reliable, time-tested line that just works. If you are looking for an upgrade definitely give this one a try!

New fan of Cortland Peach.
Switched the the Cortland Peach after watching a review/recommendation on YouTube channel, Mad River Outfitters. Set this up on my fly reals before my trip to Alaska. Made the right decision. Castability: Found this better to cast than fly lines I used in the past when I began fly fishing. Color accuracy: Better understanding regarding fly line color versus traditional fishing, the peach was much easier for me to see my line while casting and easier to track on the water. I now have my 5#, 7# and 8# set up with this line. Performance: Performed very well, even in the cool waters in Alaska. Value for money: Worth the investment compared to buying less expensive line that does not cast as well.

Excellent General Purpose Fly Line
I purchased this line to use with a medium action fly rod (fiberglass) in a variety of fishing situations from trout in rivers to panfish in local ponds. I didn't want to spend a fortune, nor did I want to purchase something that appeared affordable yet would turn out to be a waste of money. Well, this Cortland 444 Classic in a WF5F was just what I was looking for! The line casts perfectly on my rod, is perfectly supple and reasonable slick -- works just as I had hoped. From trout flies to panfish poppers and even small streamers, I've been very pleased. A great casting and great fishing line for a decent price.

Classic fly line!
This is the classic fly line! True to weight and has been around forever. Why change anything? There are hundreds of newer fly lines out there with super-cool, new tech coatings and tapers, but this has been consistent for years. It just works and keeps floating like it should.

Not 5 wt, it's 6
The line is 6wt and not 5 as listed on the box; the first 30 ft (minus ~6"12" level tip depending on how many times it was clipped to change the butt section) weighs 11 grams (168 grains) which by AFFTA is a high-6 weight (almost a 7). In fact the line casts good (in no wind) on my 7wt rods. Another line I bought (diff brand) labeled as a 6wt, is indeed a 7; 190 grains, same thing. Not sure why they are over-rating lines; I have several rods from 4-9wt and can adapt, but for the novice fly-fisher, using a heavier line than the rod is rated for can handcuff the experience depending on the rod action, so beware. Some may get lucky and a perfect fit, depends on the rod. I bought a grain scale to get pinpoint weights after my lines seemed heavy, so I know what I'm using now with these new lines. For the novice, it might seem like a 1 gram difference over 30' of line would not make a difference, but it does and is noticeable with experience since the tip of the fly rod is delicate, along with the action of the rod and the line makes all the difference between easy casting and struggling once you have ~35+ feet of line out there and casting. Otherwise I have used 444 since the 70s and it's always been a great line, you pay extra for the quality here, and won't get tangled up in a pile (like the cheap line does every time). And when the line matches the rod, it glides through the guides and can pinpoint a dry fly presentation every time (with the right leader). 444 is almost the same quality since the 70s imo just maybe get one line lighter seems to be the new rule with some lines now, along with 1 as rated on the box, and try both, while double-taper 444 has longer flat tip sections on each end, so a bit can be trimmed to closer match the grain wt for the line (which I did last week to get a correct 5wt and it worked). Getting optimal line/rod balance requires study, practice, experimenting but it's not hard to get a good match line with your rod once the physics/numbers are understood so every variable is on the same page with the casting/fishing experiences.

Everything I’ve heard about it
I put buying this off now. I wonder why the heck I waited -really good line delicate presentation. It’s not for casting 50 feet or 60 feet but just about throwing 30/40 feet and getting to where you need to be it’s a great.

I was told to get this line that it’d change my life. Works really well compared to what I had before.

What can I say, this is the OG stuff right here. Casts beautifully, entices trout from miles around. Watch the price though, and compare. For me this is fantastic stuff, and I have used them all.
