How many inches will this raise a person in a desk chair and will it retain that height?

It is 4 inches and retains height. I purchased to raise my height when sitting in desk chair for use with video camera. It works perfectly.

How do you Measure wheelchair for correct cushion

Measure the width and depth of the seat. The cushion should be an inch less, at least, the measured width. The thickness of the cushion might cause the chair height to be adjusted. The biggest problem is the cushion density. Firm can mean a cushion with little give to hard as a board.

No it will compress to fit your bottom.

Will this work in an adult power chair?

It works o.k. in a lift chair as far as size, ... it's perfect, however, the one I rec'd, although it was good in workmanship & materials, it was way too hard to sit in 24 / 7, and unfortunately I developed bed sores and had to quit using it.
