Westminster Door Bell Chime, wired version
I have just purchased a used house and the door bell is the type that goes “ding-dong”, not my favorite sound!! I had a 4 tube door bell in my previous house that played Westminster chimes and I loved it. they run several hundred dollars and where this is located, no one would ever see it. Other than the sound, it would be a waste of money. So, I started looking for electronic versions and found this one. Here is what I found:1. This unit comes presuming you are doing a new install. That means you are probably going to end up with a spare transformer unless your current one is bad or you do not have one currently installed.2. The cover snaps off easily and there are only two mounting holes. Very easy to install. The unit has provisions for a back door as well and it can have either one or two chimes if you use Westminster for your front door.3. The kit includes two door bell buttons. You MUST install a diode on the front door unit if you want it to work!!! Also, it has to be installed correctly. If you put it in backwards you will get a pulsating sound and the light in the door bell will blink. If you install it correctly, the light will be steady and the door bell will work as it should.4. There is a volume control switch which is NOT referenced in the instructions but is right next to the selection buttons for front and back door bell to chose the sound you want. My unit came with volume in the middle which was not loud enough to hear it clearly in my 2500 square foot home. I moved it to max and it is easy now to hear it anywhere in the house..The sound from this unit is very good, if a little rushed. My tubular bell unit played the sound a little slower, but it still sounds good! I am well pleased with the unit, the value for the money, ease of installation, and the sound. I would recommend this unit if you are looking for this type of door bell.

Works great
I needed to replace an old transformer and rewired so I could actually have a doorbell that hasn't worked in years. The system isn't nothing fancy but it does what I need and still a big upgrade from what I had. Chime is very nice, gives you 3 options for sound of chime. I have a 1 story home and it is more than loud enough in a 1600 sq. ft. home. I have mine actually turned down almost all the way. The doorbell button lights up, it is just a cheap button but it does light up. I will be replacing it later down the road for a video one anyway.

This has a cheap sounding tone.

Not for Nest Hello - May need additional diode.
Chime only works when button is held down. According to the electrician, I need to purchase a separate diode. Will not work well with Nest Hello. Once someone rings the doorbell the Nest goes offline. Have to disconnect the wires or shut the power off.

Works with Ring video door bell button.
We have a video door bell button and I have heard stories from friends about how difficult it was to replace their doorbell and get it to work with their video button. No problem with this one the entire project including removing the old door bell took less than an hour. And it worked perfectly.

Did not work
The diode is pain to install. I do not understand why it is not installed at the factory.

Pleasant Westminster chimes.
Since almost every TV show has "ding dong" for doorbells, I found that I was jumping up, thinking that my doorbell was ringing, when I heard "ding dong". My cat had the same reaction. For me, the solution would be Westminster chimes and these are perfect. The Chimes were easy to install, sound perfect, and I don't jump up when I hear "ding dong" on the TV anymore. They are reasonably priced also.
