The Petroff - Move by Move

I've been playing the Petroff for many years, but this book by Lakdawala is an all time classic and its 400 pages.Not only does he give all the latest trends for both sides, but he presents clearly the plans and objectives through the opening, the middlegame and the endgame, which cuts down on having to memorize tons of theory.He writes in a very entertaining way, and all his analysis appears excellent and reliable, after I double checked it with Komodo 10 and Houdini 4.For many years I relied on Janjgavas book which is now a bit out of date.If you've been waiting for Ronen Har-Zvi's book, forget it since that publisher no longer exists.If I could give this book 6 stars I would.A must have for club players and chess students as well.

Great book on the Petroff. Nicely categorized and easy to understand. I love opening books that show complete games. The author seems knowledgeable as well.

Muy bien explicado en profundidad y extensión Bastante didáctico

Es gibt auf 400 Seiten sehr ausführlich kommentierte Partien. Aber bei einem Eröffnungsbuch interessiert mich eigentlich nur die Eröffnung und nicht das daraus resultierende Endspiel nach 75 Zügen. Der Autor umschreibt (leider) viel zu oft in blumigen Worten und kürzt auch einiges ab (z.B.: cheapo = cheap trick), comp = computer). Dabei hat er wohl vergessen, dass dieses Buch nicht nur englische Muttersprachler kaufen, sondern vielleicht auch andere. Der durchschnittliche Englisch-Wortschatz eines Deutschen reicht nur aus, um grob alles zu verstehen, nicht aber Wort für Wort. Schade. Warum in schwerblütiger Sprache schreiben, wenn es doch auch viel einfacher geht.There are 400 pages with very extensively annotated games. But buying an opening book I am only interested in the opening and don't care about the resulting endgame after 75 moves. The author describes (unfortunately) too often in flowery, pictorially words and shortens also some words like (cheapo = cheaptrick) comp = computer). He must have forgotten that (t)his book is not only bought by native english speakers, but also by germans. The average English vocabulary of a German is sufficient only to unterstand roughly everything, but not word for word. Too bad. Why writing in such a manner? It does go much easier.

Für dieses Buch ist sehr sorgfältig gearbeitet, Die kritischen Varianten sind enthalten und auch die Frage / AntwortPassagen erhöhen das Verständnis für diese Eröffnung.Im Bezug auf die Systematik ist das Buch etwas schwächer als das Werk von Sakaev. Gewisse verbale Passagen sind zu ausufernd..
