Are there tips on cleaning this item?

No tips that I saw, but it's not hard to clean. There is a piece that snaps into the top that comes out and removes any of the garlic embedded in the top part. Simple to clean and easy to use.

What size are the resulting pieces of garlic? is this better than, say, a vidalia onion chopper? why? thanks!

The pieces once sliced or diced will vary, but when slicing they are roughly 1/2" in length and dicing leaves pieces at 1/4". I would recommend this garlic chopper versus the competitors.

Is there a differnce between this brand and others?

Not sure what the other brands are like, but this product is very well made. The silicone band it comes with that removes the garlic shell can be stored in the bottom of the press. The other blade stores under the press as well, and the whole press is very sturdy. It’s compact, functions well, and stores everything in one! Keeps everything together in one place so you don’t lose the parts. I love it.
