Jealous Devil Max XL All Natural Hardwood Charcoal Pillow Briquets, 20lb Box

We've been loyal fans of Jealous Devil for years now. Their lump charcoal is great, so I was really looking forward to trying out their briquettes. We grill & smoke with our 22" Weber kettle grill, so no fancy tools and fairly small space. For those long smokes, we need to replenish a few times, even with Jealous Devil ;) I wanted to give the briquettes a fair shake so we've grilled burgers, done a long smoke with a pork shoulder, and a shorter smoke with ribs. Everything tasted wonderful, as expected when using this charcoal, and the briquettes made temperature control a breeze! They do burn out faster than the lump, but for us at-home/amateur smokers, I really like the predictability of temperature since we are still figuring that out with the lump (user error, I'm sure). The extra large size also means they last longer than your standard size briquettes, so less refueling. I am also a big fan of the lack of additives--just charcoal & some vegetable starch as a binder. One of the main reasons we walked away from briquettes years ago was because of all the weird additions, which pushed us to Jealous Devil in the first place. I'm happy to see a natural briquette option and we will definitely be keeping these on hand.

I have been using these briquettes for a good while now and I have had no issues at all. I use these in a Weber Kettle and I switch up between minion and snake methods. These are absolutely wonderful for both ways but in particularly the snake method. The way they are bigger than normal briquettes, the chance for reuse is really nice. Being able to reuse gives you more of a bang for your buck feel. I thought they burned pretty hot but if you are expecting as hot as lump charcoal then you'll be disappointed but only a little bit. I find that these definitely burn hot enough for both smoking and grilling use. I looooove that it burns really clean and it does not leave a bad flavor at all. I truly don't think you'll find much better other than maybe B&B and I'd say they are tied as my favorites.

I have a Masterbuilt Gravity Series smoker. I have tried several brands of charcoal, including Masterbuilt's own lump charcoal, but so far JD Maxxx briquettes have produced the best flavor and burn time for both smoking and grilling. I want to try a couple more brands, but unless one of them really knocks it out of the park Jealous Devil is what I plan to stick with. The fact that it comes in a box also makes it easier to store.

I have used the lump charcoal of Jealous Devil for a long time and really like them. Thought I'd try the briquets. While I like they are bigger than the normal bag brands, I thought they just didn't burn as hot or as long as the lump charcoal. Maybe it was just me and others disagree. What I have been using them for is adding to my lump charcoal. When I need a little more charcoal but don't want to add a big lump I add these briquets. I may buy another box just for this reason going forward. But I won't use these alone for grilling.

I have tried a lot of different briquets for my kettle grill and these Jealous Devil Briquets you definitely want to check out.They're 50% larger than other brands and once you get these fired up, they will burn long and hot and make for the perfect grilling experience.I also loved that there was very little ash and I wish they would come in a larger bag as it is easy to go through these when you love grilling just like me.You for sure need to pick up yourself a bag or three of this Jealous Devil, just like me.

The oversized briquettes are great...much easier to use than lump charcoal that 'dams up' in the feeder. The charcoal burns nice and clean and produces a nice grilling flavor. Add some hardwood chunks to the ash bin or hopper, and Smoke Away!!

The media could not be loaded. This product is great. When starting didnt smoke like kingsford and the little smoke it had wasnt a horrible smell. Dumping the lit coals into my pk I can tell you that they were super hot. As you can see in the video I posted with the vents full open. Tested out 8 burgers with different rubs on them and the coals cooked the burgers perfectly and they had a very good burger flavor without the charcoal taste. Must buy these.

Terrible lack of heat in the coals and it’s burn time was disappointing I will never try this product again!!!
