No buzzing
Previous mutes would buzz against the tailpiece so I’d take it off and lose it. I have one of these on both my viola and my violin. I like that the rubber clip is safe on the tailpiece and then the mute stays put. Barely any effort required to put over the bridge 👍🏻👍🏻

Best Sounding Mute
My teacher recommended this mute. She was spot on. First, it is the best mute I've used in 60+ years of playing. It cuts the volume in half but, unlike other mutes, it retains all the resonance of the unmuted violin. Second, it is very easy to engage and disengage.

This mute has changed my life!
No more mute rattles or losing/forgetting/cursing at your mute! Just a couple of comments:1. The mute itself is large and of good quality. I've used it on 2 violas so far and am as happy as I could be with the mute itself. Someone told me it was a bit bulky for his violin bridge, but that may have been a fashion related comment.2. Someone commented that s/he couldn't get the magnet to fit over the tailpiece. I've put it on both a Wittner tailpiece (mit Tuners) and a standard boxwood tailpiece. The magnetic clip is more flexible than one might think. When in doubt, ask your local luthier to install it. The expense of installation or dirty looks for not buying it from him at quadruple the price will be worth it.Happy mutating!

Pretty decent mute
I used to have a bech practice mute back when I played violin, and I would enthusiastically recommend it for violinists. I recently purchased one for my 16.5" viola though, and it doesn't mute nearly as effectively as it did on my violin. I suppose this should have been obvious, but just a fair warning to any violists. Also, be sure that it fits on your tailpiece. I have a Thomastik tailpiece and the magnetic attachment won't fit without getting in the way of the built-in fine tuners. But that's my fault, I should have checked that before ordering. If they made a slightly larger, heavier version of this mute for viola I would probably give it 4 or 5 stars.

It's a keeper!
I used to use cheap rubber mutes that rattled when not in use, so I would always take them off of my instrument and lose them. The Bech magnetic mute hasn't rattled, even during some of my most vigorous playing on the lower strings. Therefore, it's not coming off my instrument and I won't lose it. When it is in use, it makes a really nice tone. Get one and never be caught without your mute in rehearsal. It's well worth the money.

Finally, an answer to the rattling mute!
I love it - it's exactly what I've been wanting!! I don't want the wire kind and have always like my regular black mute - except that it rattles when not in use. So I take it off and then lost it. Now, my troubles are over! This slides back and stays in place thanks to the magnet on the little piece.

Perfect for practice within a family setting
Works well as a meter while still allowing me to hear the music, the tune and the amplification are perfect.

Great Mute
I really like this mute. The only problem with it is that the magnet does not fit on the tailpiece if you have fine tuners on more than two strings. I have fine tuners on all of my strings, so the magnet does not work for me. The mute is very nice though. It mutes the instrument sufficiently, without affecting the sound quality much at all. Overall great product.
