Business analytics for "Dummies"!
The amount of data in our world has been exploding, and analyzing large data sets—so-called big data—has become a key basis of competition, underpinning new waves of productivity growth, innovation, and consumer surplus.I had the opportunity to attend Mr. Isson keynote speech at the Predictive Analytics Conference in Washington DC, USA . He shared his inspiring journey building a global Business Intelligence team from ground up at Monster Worldwide, helping Monster to leverage advanced business analytics to compete and win. It’s fair to say that I was awaiting his book with acute interest in Business analytics.I am passionate about tax data analytic or how a company can leverage tax analytics to recover overpaid transaction taxes. I am always willing to learn how a firm can use state-of-the-art techniques, practices and software to conduct transactional data mining and data analytics in order to recover erroneously paid taxes.I have been looking for a good book, simple, easy to read in non-technical terms that covers both quantitative and qualitative approaches to data collection and analysis in business analytics. The book is always accessible and engaging, excellent, published by Wiley/SAS, it is a truly one-of-a-kind text, derived from real-world, practitioner experience that is about understanding what is truly necessary to create, manage, win, and succeed with business analytics, while focusing on analytical ideas, methods, and frameworks for generating sustainable business and shareholder value.

Like it!!!
I feel this is a well-written book, very easy to follow with insightful examples. It's a high-level book (on the business side instead of technical side) that will get you thinking and motivate you to generate big wins from your organization's data through analytics.

Good if you want a very high level overview of ...
Not really loving this book - too much sizzle and not enough steak. Good if you want a very high level overview of the org and culture components to business analytic key success factors. Written for a senior audience, but overloaded with frameworks. Every chapter seems to introduce a new acronym. Book could probably have been summarized by a half with respect to culture and org considerations (the 'what') and then the other half would be better served with the details on analytics (the 'how')Just my two cents....others might find immense value in this book.

For anyone looking to jump start their world of analytics or those already in the game
Understanding analytics can be a daunting task that balances the line between nontechnical and technical concepts. To be successful, companies need to leverage analytics in a multitude of ways to help be more competitive, drive innovation and business growth, and be successful in an increasingly demanding work environment. With many ways to present and understand data, the book, Win with Advanced Analytics, provides the framework and concepts to applying business analytics in your organization in a clear and concise manner. Supporting the creation of value from data assets, the authors, Isson and Harriott, present best practices for those both new and seasoned to analytics. Building on previously unrelated data assets throughout an organization, (e.g., marketing-specific, product-specific, customer-specific, etc.), the authors help cross the barriers to showcase how key business questions cut across departments. From the first anecdote, regarding data-mining techniques used to predict pregnancy through online shopping activity, readers will find light and fun illustrations of insight gained through the use of "big data." The concepts are simple, "articulate and prioritize the key questions [you] want business analytics to answer," understand that "business analytics is most useful when it is predictive," and be effective through "the integration and synthesis of various information disciplines across the organization."This book is a must read if you are looking to succeed in analytics.
