Quick! Easy! Works!
I really had my doubts about this system, but I wanted to try some 'beach-y' curls/waves out of sheer boredom with my growing hair. My hair is thinning and very, very fine. I have been using a flat-iron on it, but am now glad to have this option. The Caruso steam roller system is economical, easy to use with a little practice and maybe some on-line investigation of 'how-to' videos: there are many, and they all have useful tips. You do have to experiment to find out how long you should leave curlers in: the 10 minutes suggested by product booklet is cracked! No way! You must leave curlers in for at least a half-hour, most likely. But not to worry: They are very snug and comfortable and you can just do other things while you wait: the rollers don't fall out if you clamp the covers on them right. I have been really pleased with the outcomes: Waves and very healthy added volume to my otherwise rather thin/flat hair. A useful tip: just comb your hair with your fingers while the waves last, Brushing through them will create unattractive fuzz. The curls last for days if you are not out in extreme humid weather. I feel good using this product on my break-prone hair. And it's fun and easy to have a 'new' look when I want to.

Perfect for difficult to curl hair
I bought my first Caruso hair setter system more than twenty-five years ago, and this is the fifth I've purchased over the years. Only two of the 5 have every went bad or stopped working. I cannot say enough good things about this system. I have very fine hair that doesn't hold a curl with any other method, shy of perms. My hair always frizzes or falls flat and this system is the only one that has ever created a curl that looks healthy and holds most of the day without a lot of product. It's a pretty easy task to roll your hair with these, I can't grasp the reviews that say it only curls the bottom of your hair. If you roll your hair properly and don't overload the rod with too big a chunk of hair, it works very well. My hair is fairly long, past my shoulders, and I roll about a half inch thick chunk, about an inch wide, starting at one end and wrapping it up. Also, although it is recommended to use distilled water, I have always used tap. I am on well water and I would say that's probably why the two of my units that have went bad, went bad - due to build up. But even then, they lasted several years of almost daily use. This particular unit does not include the short hair clips that others I have purchased have, which is a little comb clip you can lock on which works really well for short hair or layered hair. I don't really know the pro's and cons of the ionic setting on this unit, except that when you put it on ionic it clicks while steaming instead, which is irksome so I didn't use that setting.

EXCELLENT CARE FOR YOUR HAIR
I just purchased the Caruso Steam hairsetter and I am thrilled with it! Here's my story: I used to have absolutely gorgeous below the shoulder, shiny light browne hair. Last year, I decided to get it highlighted blond. Since I really liked the blond (I have to admit, it looks good on me and totally natural) I continued to get it highlighted. Unfortunately, the salon (it was a top salon by the way) that I was going to did not highlight my hair correctly. After about a year, my hair started to get thinner and thinner and started to dry out and break off. By the end of a year, my hair is wispy, thin and dryed out. I had no idea what was happening until it was too late. After going to a different salon (in tears I might add) and speaking with the salon owner, he told me that he could see exactly what they had done to my hair. He told me that it was obvious that they had colored over the SAME strands each time they highlighted it; when in fact they should have been highlighting and lowlighting the ROOTS ONLY. As I said, I had no idea what was going on until it was too late to do anything about it. My once beautiful locks are now only shoulder length ( I had to get about 5 inches cut off) and I am really fortunate that I have anything left at all. I now am not coloring my hair anymore, I will have to wait years before I get my beautiful hair back b/c of this salon's negligence. Anyway, that being said, I purchased the Caruso steamer in the hopes that it would give my lifeless hair some of its bounce back. And I'm happy to say that it absolutely has. This steamer is amazing. It made my hair bouncy and curly and shiny. I was so thrilled with the results b/c I was desperate to find something that would help me! If you have fine hair or hair that has been badly damaged or even if you have beautiful hair -- I would highly recommend this wonderful product. The steam is GOOD for your hair and so much better than the traditional dry heat rollers which, if used too much will ruin your hair (not to mention a bad colorist). Here's my other advice: GRILL your colorist about what they are doing. Don't ruin your hair with overcoloring -- it's totally not worth it. But if you have, get this steamer. In my opinion it is the "mineral powder foundation" of hair care. It's incredible. Period.

Easy use (youtube videos explain really well), fast, great result (glamorous waves result). Light weight when on the head and steam machine also light. Not enough rollers (large and jumbo especially) for most people.

So these rollers take a bit of getting used to. I am Indian and I have very thick, very curly hair that frizzes up at the mere proximity of steam and humidity, but after reading the reviews I decided to take a chance on these for days when I wanted Victoria Secret waves or looser big curls, instead of my tighter 3A/3B natural hair without using all that heat damage. Final review: I love them but the first couple of times did not turn out the best. For me personally, I found they work best if I: 1) Apply a leave in conditioner, anti-frizz serum and curl cream to my dry hair right before I roll. I brush the product in and make sure the hair is nicely covered. I prefer Devacurl B'leave in, Chi Infusion and Hibiscus curl smoothie. 2) Roll the hair TAUT. For the large and jumbo rollers, I use double prong clips because my hair is so heavy that even though the regular plastic clips stay on, they don't pull the hair taut enough to force the smooth curl. 3) Steam the roller and then shake out excess water. Also steam the cover. I steam the large/jumbo ones for 7-8 seconds, and the small/medium ones 5-7 seconds. If you have a lot of hair, you will need to buy more rollers. 4) Leave them in for as LONG AS POSSIBLE. I find the longer they stay in the better. I keep mine in about an hour as I do other housework and errands. Then I blast them with warm heat on low with my blow dryer and let them cool. 5) Take them out slowly and then let the sit again. Do not immediately brush out. Use some hair spray right after you take out the rollers. 6) Finger separate with oil or serum, and voila. The curls really will last forever. If you have long hair like me, some sections may act a little differently at first. The trick is to take your time rolling the sections taut and in not too large a chunk. You can always touch up the one or two bits that fall with a roller the next day or a curling wand or straightener. But overall, you use very little heat and it means I can have my curly hair healthier for longer.
