Great Bang For the Buck.
Nice smooth paper. For the price, it is a great sketch book. I have only used it for pencil and light pen (Uni-Ball Vision Elite). But I am filling in areas with ink, and there is not much bleed through to back side of paper (read below for explanation. ) If you're using heavy amounts of ink, then use a backing sheet for sure. I just use a backing sheet all the time, it never hurts, and then you have an extra place to write or doodle something not intended for that sketch book.It is a sKetCH book; I just figure on the back of each page being pretty much useless, anyway, except for maybe notes in pencil or doodles in the margins. In my opinion, saving the following sheet is what matters, and I am impressed by how smooth this paper is, and how well it prevents bleed through (within reason) to the following sheet. When they say 176 pages, figure that means 88 pages, nicely bound, and you won't be disappointed.Ink users be advised: the GOOD is that you get nice crisp, clean lines because the paper is so smooth, the BAD is that it can take a while for the ink to dry because is does not soak into the paper very much. Just be careful not to accidentally smudge what you have just drawn. I still give the sketch book 5 stars, because I would rather have the clean lines.

For Masterpieces and Memories!
I bought this sketchbook as a gift for my brother who is an artist. I know how picky he is, so I searched throuth many before deciding on this one. Here's why:The Sketchbook has a thick black cover that lies flat on page one or page 176 when opened. This is PERFECT for him, because he is LEFT HANDED. No wire bound or spiral bound notebooks to worry about. This leaves the smoothest drawing surface possible. There are a good number of blank pages in this book. One Hundred Seventy-Six to be exact! All in ONE book for ONE low price here at Amazon. Also, the pieces of paper are high quality pages. (Thick and Strong). He's not easily worried about tears. Another upside of this is that you can erase all you'd like and not worry about creating a hole, or tearing the page in half.Don't you hate when you have a conpleted book of art, you put it away and then a couple of years later, you're looking for a specific drawing. When you take it out, you're disappointed because the page has yellowed like an old newspaper in the sun. Well, NOT with this paper. It's Ph levels are guaranteed not to show this fault.I know he's used pencil, (colored and lead), chalk, ink and charcoal as well. This paper is even strong enough for watercolors! The Prismacolor Pencils work great with this blank book. All in all this book has many uses and doesn't disappoint! I highly recommend this to the artist in the family or your little up-and-coming artist that loves to finger paint! It's a nice size with thick paper and absolutely built to last!Pick one up! You'll be glad you did!!

Good mixed media book
The paper is nice and heavy in this book so it's good for just about every medium. I have used and abused these sketch books and they just stand up to it. Total worth every penny and then some.

I use for writing, not artwork
Expectations:>Nearly flat opening for ease of writing on both sides of the page>Stiff cover to allow neat writing on any angle or surface>Thick paper to avoid tearing of the page when using mechanical pencils>Thick paper to avoid tearing or crinkling of the page when using erasers>High white brightness for higher quality digital scanning and ease of writing in low-light situations>Durable binding for long-lasting use>Acid-free archival paper to prevent yellowingI needed a hardcover notebook that was unlined to use at a notebook for my business notes when I visit clients. I usually write very small, and college-ruled or graph paper notebooks have printed lines that are too dark along with pages too thin for reliable use with a 0.5mm mechanical pencilPROS++ All my expectations were met (see above)++ Good price++ Label removes very cleanly++ Paper smoothness is so high that it leaves little (if any) ghosting after erasure (using Sanford Magic Eraser or Staedtler Mars Plastic). However high paper smoothness has drawbacksCONS (for writing, NOT art-related activities)-- Paper not as thick as the previous sketchbook I used, which it's only drawback was the binding didn't allow nearly flat open use-- Paper is so smooth that sometimes have to press down a little harder (or turn to write with edge of pencil lead) with my mechanical pencil using HB lead for a dark impression, otherwise I make medium-gray lines. The solution would be to use softer lead in the B range.-- Paper is susceptible to overly humid days in the US NorthEast (85% humidity, where 70%+ is common) due to smoothness and current thickness. As a result it becomes more difficult to write dark lines. This is prevented with thicker *and* more textured paper

On my fourth book. Perfect for my uses
These Watson Guptill sketchbooks have proven perfect for my uses: brush pen doodling and shading with ink wash. The most recently complete sketchbook was tested to its binding's limits with approximately 90% of the pages handling full ink wash coveraged.Permanent markers on these pages will have bleed-through, but the paper stock handles the ink wash decent enough. If I go over a section too much while the page is wet, there will be spotting on the reverse side, but if the ink wash is allowed a chance to dry, further layering can be added and bleeding does not occur. In that regard, I can use both sides of a page and achieve 11" x 17" size canvases.I consider these sketchbooks my doodle diaries. Really like them. Have a look:

Excelente sketchbook
