Mine was glass. It recently broke.

Q: Will the glasses compartments fit two watches too? I'd like to use it both storage purposes

I hadn't thought about using it for storing watches but to answer your question, I tried it and it holds two watches (reg sz) vs large round faces). I recommend the watch storage boxes because they hold the shape of your watches and have velvet holders and coating in the boxes to protect them. They come in various sizes depending on how many watches you need to store. Hope this helps.
