2 x Forged Tamper, 1500 mm

Having already purchased several Silverline tools, powered and mandraulic, I had high hopes for this tamper. Unfortunately it failed after only four days use tamping a mix of sieved soil and light hardcore bedding in garden/lawn edging. It fractured at the weld area on the base, see photos.

Fantastic.. saved a lot of money on renting plate compactors. This is a great tool. It’s hard work, but it does the job. Have laid over 40 slabs with around 100mm of hardcore and has compacted every area perfectly.

Very impressed with this temper. It’s solid, heavy and tall enough for me to comfortably use (I’m 6ft 1). It doesn’t have a massive base plate, but I only needed it for a couple of smallish jobs (making a solid base for my wheelie bins, and to extend my patio with 7 patio slabs). I wouldn’t use it for bigger jobs such as making a long garden path, or making a full patio, but for smaller jobs such as the ones I mentioned, it’s perfect.

Well made with good welds and hard hammerite coated paint. But smaller than I thought all though I was aware the size but any bigger would probably be to tireing on arms due to weight.

Great way to level out areas using gravity and body and no fossil fuels. Recommended for people with upper body strength and a willingness to reduce pollution impact. Recommended.

Not overly heavy but did the job I required. I needed to pack down some earth after building a retaining wall. Great exercise! As a precaution I suggest wearing safety footwear. Especially if working at foot level. Works well. And no injuries to report....

It was not advertised as 1200mm but 1500mm. Naturally I was expecting the latter and was promised an explanation, which has not been forthcoming. I needed to get on with the job so used the 1200mm, which is acceptable for shallow work. I was asked not to post comment until the matter was resolved, which I was happy to comply with, until you asked me again for comment. A simple explanation would have been courteous.

Purchased this tool to compact earth around fence posts I had been putting up. Did the job perfectly, and I really can't fault it. In my experience, Silverline tools can be a mixed bag, but this seems very well put together, with a strongly welded base and a good powder coated finish to keep the weather out. Nicely weighted but not too fatiguing to use. Measures approximately six inches square at the base.
