When songwriter/vocalist/pianist Andrew McMahon, drummer Brian Ireland and bassist Clutch, partnered up with guitarist William Tell in high school they started jamming as Something Corporate and Orange County started listening. After branding their style as alternative-rock that was much more radio friendly than the punk music of their counterparts, Drive-Thru Records noticed the band, too, and signed them in 2000. They released their first EP Audioboxer which led to opening gigs for bands like Sugar Ray and Better Than Ezra. MCA used their marketing and distributing power when they partnered with Drive-Thru for the band s first album, Leaving Through the Window, which was followed by a successful tour. After their sophomore release, North, guitarist William Tell amicably left the group and guitarist Bob Anderson replaced him on Something Corporate and Yellowcard s co-headlining tour in 2004. A hiatus followed this tour while front man Andrew McMahon took on a solo project, forming the band Jack s Mannequin. The future of Something Corporate is unclear, but the band did reunite for a tour in 2010.
