Seki Magoroku Diamond and Ceramic Sharpener (AP-0308)

I was a bit skeptical initially on how well this gadget can sharpen knives, having used a few cheap ones in the past. However, the seller has a option to return and Kai seems to be a reputed brand for cutting instruments from Japan (www.kai-group.com). They also have a branch in India (www.kaiindia.in). Usually my knives are sharpened on an inexpensive whetstone, with the correct technique it gets sharp but as a novice, I've never gotten a razor sharp edge. Today when I tested this product (AP-0308), it sharpened the edge much better that what I normally get and it's as sharp as a fresh boxcutter blade. It was tested against cardboard and paper. It was also very quick, took about 5 minutes (2 pulls on the diamond #1, 5 pulls on the ceramics #2, #3) compared to the whetstone that usually takes me about 15 - 20 minutes. Looking at the label, the overall quality of the packaging and product and also the price of the original listed at the Japanese website (appx INR 1350), I think this is a Genuine Kai sharpener. The price is reasonable IMO especially when you look at how much the good quality sharpening stones sell for. The really cheap stones do work but they're like half the price of this while being relatively harder to use.

Excellent product. Does what it promises. Value for money. Though it doesn’t work on serrated knives.

Please note that it Only works effectively for Japanese Knives with a 16 degree cutting edge. Has no effect on other knives probably due to their 25 degree cutting edge. Though it was mentioned in the description I did not understand the significance till I tried to sharpen my knives.

Sorry to say but I got used product, so many scratches on product, package was unsealed , that plastic box's seal was open also. I paid more than 1000 RS and got this type of product. applied for replacement and now waiting for it . BTW Kai is a very good brand, i have knives from KAI and those are beyond expectation. Here only the issue was - received used product , otherwise i am pretty sure the sharpener would be very good. I'll update when i willl have my replacement one . So replacement i got , again unsealed but this time the sharpening place is untouched so i accepted. Please do remember Amazon, don't send unseal products again and again, it's ruining your reputation and our trust as well. I'm giving this product 4 🌟 only because of its quality. For packaging I'll give you 1 🌟 only.

Excellent and so simple operation. Made in japan with impunity. Must have product. Reasonable price. Knife shapens in a jiffy.

fantastic knife sharpener. I had a lot of dull knives lying around. I bought this knife sharpener and tried it on all my knives and whit just 5 pulls the knives were all sharpened. it is such a pleasure cutting vegetable with sharp knives. even tomatoes which a notoriously difficult to cut without serrated knives are a breeze to slice through. the only negative is that you cant sharpen serrated knives with this device. but all in all a great buy and a very useful tool in the kitchen.
