Is this triggered by small pets? (we have cats)

Yes, this motion sensor can be triggered by small animals. You will not likely find a ceiling mount motion sensor that has a pet excluding feature. You will need a standard wall mount motion sensor that has the pet excluding feature, and to follow the mounting and setup instructions carefully.

Is this unit "normally open" or "normally closed", or does it have an option of either?

Will this work with my ADT security system?

yes any motion detector will work with your system....the only thing that makes it compatible is the resistor used on the line as the EOL.If you already have a motion in place and you are replacing it then just keep the resistor on the zone and it will work.

Is this wireless or does it require hard wire?

It's wired. It requires +12VDC power (2 wires) and connects to a closed-circuit detection loop (2 wires). Optionally, it can be connected to a tamper detection circuit (2 wires) to detect if someone tries to remove the cover.
