Ask No Questions: A gripping crime thriller with a twist you won't see coming..
(Detective Trilogy Book 1 of 3)UK based crime/ police procedural thrillers are probably my favourite genre. And here we have one. So what could go wrong? Pretty much everything . Would like to say I lost the plot but not entirely sure there ever was one to begin with.Too many characters (too many cooks!) with little or no background build up. Still no idea who was working for who/with who, who was in the dark, who was just along for the ride.Convoluted plot which made a little sense at times, and not a lot more once "explained". Felt like I should have kept notes of who said what to who/ about whom, but not sure the author didn’t either by the reads of it!Don't like leaving spoilers in reviews but a few confusing incidents like X talking to Y after they had just left them and was it was not alone with Z , X producing something we had already been told they weren't carry. As soon as I saw the words "Epilogue", well no surprise there, pretty obvious, however ludicrous, what that was going to be. I think that would have worked better as just a continuous part of the final chapter.I ain’t a quitter so I stuck with it till the end but won't be in a rush to read the next instalment (when and if it makes an appearance!.)

Ask No Questions
Another class novel from Claire Allan. So many twists and turns that kept me guessing the to the very end. Some complex characters making it difficult at times to know who is genuine or has a hidden agenda. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

An engrossing filmic thriller.
Rating: 3.9/5"Ask No Questions" is a welcome return to form from Claire Allan. I would go as far as to say that this is the best of the thrillers she has penned to date.I have now read all but one of the five thrillers that Claire Allan has written. I was impressed by the first, "Her Name Was Rose", but felt that the two books that followed it, "Apple of My Eye" and "Forget Me Not" were disappointing and a little too formulaic to stand out from the crowd. As a result, I didn't even bother reading her next offering, "The Liar's Daughter" when it was published last year. I am glad that I decided to give the author another chance, or I would have missed out on a captivating read with this, her latest novel.Ingrid Devlin is a journalist in Derry. As she is about to write a piece marking the 25th anniversary of the murder of local 8-year-old, Kelly Doherty, Ingrid finds herself being increasingly drawn into an investigation that goes deeper than she could have imagined. It soon also becomes clear that somebody doesn't want her to keep digging ... but who and why?"Ask No Questions" has an earthier, grittier feel to it than the previous Claire Allan thrillers I have read. It is also more filmic in its style and it wouldn't take a great stretch of the imagination to see this adapted into a screenplay. The pace of the story is well maintained throughout and the events and characterisation are engrossing, while remaining credible. Now I just need to put a note in my diary to remind me to read Claire Allan's next thriller too.

Was kept enthralled all the way through.
Loved it but just on a different note Kelly was referred to as Kelly Heaney twice towards the end !

Cracking read!
What a cracking read! Ingrid, the main character a journalist with a nose for story, is reporting on the 25th anniversary of the killing of eight year old Kelly who was murdered on Halloween night. However this story is personal for Ingrid, as she was there trick or treating that night too. With short, snappy chapters that make this a fast paced, tense read we are lead down some twisty, dangerous paths with Ingrid. Ingrid makes some brave/foolhardy choices that gave me anxiety, but also made me respect her dedication in seeking the truth. It gave me the creeps, had shivers of fear running up and down my spine, and I really appreciated how well plotted this book was. The Derry setting was a treat also.Highly recommended!

Claire Allan does it again
An outstanding book. Having read the other novels and grown to dislike the book's main character, Ingrid, with such a passion, I found myself increasingly sorry for her as she pursues the latest mystery. The book is a serious page turner, and if I'd been left to my own devices I'd probably have devoured it in one sitting!Really looking forward to Claire Allan's next novel, which no doubt will be another gripping page turner.
