XXL fit for 44 waist?

Yes. I have a 44 waist, and just got mine. Just stretch it when putting it on, and it will fit snug, but that's how it's supposed to fit. I plan to wear it for about an hour a day the first week, then a couple of hours the second, and so on.

Is it machine-washable?

there are 2 support bars in the back area. so hand washing is recommended.
