Kenwood AX950 Attachment for kMix Stand Mixer Meat Grinder

This mincer (meat grinder) attachment came with a kMix stand mixer. Finally tried it today to grind raw chicken breast. Per instructions, using the medium screen, assembled the attachment and tightened outer nut with the wrench. (YES! the cutter was placed in the correct direction.) Set speed to 4, per instructions. PROBLEM 1. The screw could not turn!! Well, of course it couldn't because the nut actually screws down against the screen, putting pressure on the entire assemble so that the cutter is jammed against the screen. Loosening the nut relieves the pressure, enabling the screw to turn. PROBLEM 2. Cut the chicken breast into into 1-inch strips, per instructions. Dropping a mere 2 pieces into the feeder resulted in the screw jamming. Loosening the nut a bit more did not fix this. Disassembled and tried again using 1-inch cubes instead of strips. This still results in jamming if several pieces are dropped in succession into the feeder. Disassemble and switched to the coarse screen. Unfortunately, no improvement. It appears that the mixer cannot supply enough torque for this task! Tried feeding a single cube at a time with a delay of several seconds so that the single piece could begin to be cut. This at least enabled 4 -5 pieces to be added before jamming. PROBLEM 3. Because this attachment is also supposed to grind nuts, I tried some garlic cloves that had been frozen but were now at room temperature. Freezing results in the cloves being softer when they thaw. A single clove jammed the unit! So I had to cut the cloves into small pieces and add to the meat as it S-L-O-W-L-Y processed 1 little cube at a time, making sure the meat was coming through the screen before adding another cube. Took more than 1 hour to do a 5 minute grinding. I went ot YouTube to check some videos by users of the AX950. SURPRISE! Not a single hit for the AX950! So, it seems there are 2 issues here. 1. The design of the attachment such that great pressure is put on the assembled unit if the screww is tightened. 2. The kMixer does not have the torque for this job.

Got this to go with my Kenwood of course. Great fun to use to mince your own meat. Works a treat and is so much better than the all plastic attempts on other mixers.Bit of advice when mincing...to get all the meat out the mincing drum bit, just pop a slice or two of bread through it until the meat is all out and you start getting the bread. Nowt wasted. Thanks nan, still remember your advice even after all these years!

I've only used the grinder a couple of times, but so far I'm very happy with it. Don't use too large pieces of meat since then it clogs up. Looks nice, high quality materials and feel. Easy to attach and assemble. What I learned the hard way is to NOT PUT IT IN THE DISHWASHER. This goes for all aluminium things apparently. You will get a grey/oily surface of the parts and you'll have to clean them with steel wool which will take a looong time. So don't do it! =)

Superb! Turns out that making sausages is quite addictive. You can make any sort you want, obviously. Downside is that I have put on 37 stone since getting it (that's not true).

Item was delivered within a couple of days and used it a day later.Im very impressed with the quality and durability of it, the only very minor drawback is the plunger is a kind of cheap plastic, its still ok and Im being very picky here, but it would've been nicer if it was a solid object. But overall Im very happy - 5 stars!

I thought that this would be a bit of a toy initially but it does the job so well I have stopped buying mince from the butcher and I make sausages with ease too. Very easy to clean (but remember not to put the parts in to a dishwasher.!) Everything's packs away neatly too.

Excellent addition to my new Kmix. Easy to use and easy to clean. Thought it would take a lot of practice to make sausages but no, great sausages from first attempt. In the short time I have had this attachment it has had a lot of use and am looking forward to experimenting with lots of different mixes for my burgers and sausages. I have always made my own burgers but with shop bought mince. Making my own mince I know exactly what is in it and the burgers are immeasurably tastier.

This machine was purchased as a gift for my mum and she loved it! It is sturdy and made out of quality materials. Mainly used for lamb and chicken mince - works a treat.

Great piece of equipment, would be better if it could go in the dishwasher though.

He loves it - makes all his burgers, meatballs, sausages etc with it. We have minced chicken, beef, pork - all with ease. Very well made and sturdy. It will definitely last us years. Absolutely delighted.

This attachment is well made and fitted well and I have not stopped using since it arrived, what did I do without this unit.I will also add that the service I received, from ordering to delivery was spot on.I will use the Internet to shop more from now on

We tried using this for other things like nuts and it works but you effectively get peanut butter strings. Otherwise for mincing meat , excellent!

Bought as present for my Chef Son, to compliment his KMix. These are hard to find but was pleased with the price here and arrived well packaged, very good quality.

Unbelievably noisy. All machines make a noise but this attachment tops the lot. It grinds in every sense of the word. Unsatisfactory - avoid.
