Does this mic require a lot of gain??

Since the sensitivity is -53dB, it will require more gain then a similarly priced condenser microphone, like the AT2020. However, because of the way this microphone is used (very close to the mouth), you should not have any issue with this, as long as you are using a reasonable quality microphone preamp/interface.
