Great for Home Schooling! Better than private school.
Our 5-yr old just started the 1st grade books. We also have an 8-yr old who has nearly completed the 6th grade version of these books (started the Kindergarten version) , and she is the brightest 8-yr old we've come in contact with.Highly recommended! No religious, or ethnocentric spin (aside from the fact that they’re designed for American children), just straight facts!

Different expectations daily
My advice for the writing curriculum is to plan it out with other curriculum in mind. My daughter really enjoys the pages where she needs to identify errors or fill in something or rewrite sentences. Those pages seem to have straight forward expectations and the page can be done in a reasonable amount of time. Then there are the pages where something needs to be drawn and the prompt is not very specific, for example draw and write about your favorite winter celebration. This page will take a long time compared to the other days' pages. The issue stems from needing to first narrow down the ideas, but what might be easy to write about could be tricky to draw. The two didn't always match up when she did the kindergarten writing so I think this will be more of that.

Looks really good I would also like these for the summer between grades
Looks good I would also like these for the summer between grades to prevent having to catch up. First grade common core curriculum hit us like a ton of bricks.

Excellent practice for 5 and 6 years old.
Good practice books for 5 and 6 years old. Kids like to do it without hesitate and having fun doing these works sheets every day.

Happy with it
I purchased this, along with several other writing books, as a homeschool supplement. It's going to be useful for us and I'm happy with the quality & quantity of content in it relative to several of the other books I purchased. Scholastic's "success with writing," is another worthwhile book to look at.

Repetitive and very basic... add a ?, read the sentences and checkmark that you did
I have their language book and love it. Their series is very basic. It tries to cover basic rules over and over. But, this writing series was ridiculous to me. It was not trying to have your child write 1 sentence and remember capitalization, punctuation, etc... It was the same thing over and over and over... Circle the intro sentence, underline the supporting sentences, circle the conclusion (this with a 4 sentence paragraph). Then, look at the paragraph, read it and then checkmark that you see punctuation at the end of each sentence (every sentence always had punctuation and it never required them to fill it in). Also, draw a picture for the story. My daughter has to write full stories in school and this book was beneath what she was doing. I would have gotten it for pre-k 4. It truly was that easy and basic to me. This one was a waste of money.
