Awesome Replacement
I had a 2 TB external that kept disconnecting. It has done it for an extremely long time; however, it became completely unusable. I used numerous ports, several cables including a new one and three different computers to no avail. Finally, I gave up and broke the casing and put the drive into this Vantec. I've always loved Vantec cases. They are extremely solid and last. I have a 2.5 external that has travelled with me for years for DJ and personal use. It never gave me a problem. The cable is something I've only seen one other time and I'm not too concerned about replacing it. Once you connect it to the driver. IT DOES NOT MOVE!!!! There is no play at the port whatsoever. You could get a brick out of an Aztec pyramid faster than disconnecting this thing. So far it's ran pretty hard for a few weeks and absolutely no issues. This is a must have enclosure.

Solid, No-Nonsense Drive Enclosure That Just Works
Solid, No-Nonsense Drive Enclosure That Just Works I’ve used several 3.5” enclosures over the years for salvaged drives, and the Vantec NexStar TX remains one of the most dependable, no-frills choices out there. Setup is straightforward—installing a SATA drive takes just a few minutes with the included screwdriver and screws, and it’s plug-and-play on both Windows and macOS. The aluminum shell helps dissipate heat better than plastic models, and the transfer speeds are right where they should be for a USB 3.0 enclosure (around 150–180 MB/s in my tests with a 7200 rpm HDD). It’s powered externally, so it can easily handle large desktop drives up to 16 TB and runs quietly without noticeable vibration. The blue activity LED is bright enough to confirm drive activity without being distracting, and the included vertical stand keeps it stable and ventilated. A few design quirks are worth noting: the end caps are plastic, so be careful not to overtighten the screws. Also, the fit is snug but not tool-free, so it’s better suited for drives you’ll leave in place rather than swap frequently. Still, once installed, the connection is rock-solid—no random disconnects or cable play like you find on cheaper cases. Compared with brands like ORICO or Sabrent, this one feels slightly less refined but more reliable over time. I’ve used Vantec cases for years, and they’ve proven to last through heavy use and multiple system rebuilds without failure. Bottom line: A simple, sturdy, and affordable way to reuse 3.5” SATA drives—ideal for desktop backups, media storage, or resurrecting old HDDs with reliable USB 3.0 performance.

Great External Case For SSD or HDD!
A few years back I purchased a 2 TB Seagate External HDD and the store where I got it from had them at a REDICULOUSLY cheep price. There was no question about it that I needed to get one whereas you could never have enough HDD space for all your files, folders, music, pictures, etc etc. I am a big fan of the Seagate products whereas they are usually good quality and hold up well. EXCEPT for this external HDD. the power connection port was of poor build quality and it was to a point where I would have to jiggle and fenagle around the power cable to finally make a good connection to power on the HDD. Sometimes I would get it to turn on and the without warning shut off, sometimes right in the middle of saving a file or trying to load a file or work project. Quite honestly it was becoming a huge nuisance for me. I was confident that the HDD enclosed in this external drive was in good shape and it would work if I was to mount the drive into my computer case or mount it into a new external enclosure. I decided to go with the external enclosure route to allow me to take the drive with me to my friend's house if I decided to do some file sharing/swapping to that effect. Here comes the review. I have used NexStar enclosures in the past with 2.5 HDD's that I have extracted out of dead laptop computers that I have owned and beyond pleased how good the quality of those enclosures provide. This enclosure does carry over with the overall build quality. But does lack in a very small capacity. Let me explain. The main structure of the enclosure is made from aluminum which gives it the good build quality but the end caps are made from plastic. My older models, the end caps were also made from aluminum making it a solid build. You need to take care and be mindful when closing up this enclosure not to over tighten the screws that are supplied and potentially strip out the screw mounts or possibly crack the end caps. This enclosure comes with everything you need to mount a sata HDD or SSD plus the power cord to supply the power to the enclosure. It also comes with a USB cable that supports USB 3.0 for fast transfer rates. Lastly it is one of those plug and play so your Windows based or Mac based computer will recognize it quickly. No need to install special drivers to use this enclosure. If there is any cons I can find with this case, is the endcaps being constructed of plastic composite. Final Thoughts: This is a really great enclosure to mount an HDD or an SSD to give you an external storage drive. I would recommend this to anyone needing to reuse or simple place a new drive onto your computer.

Vantec NexStar TX 3.5" USB 3.0 Is Great Used Them Since 2010
This is rock solid I read Some had problems with Outer Case Screws(2). you should follow MFG instructions But I owen 4 3 since 2010 and still 100% si I just ordered 1 more. What I Do with the case Screws is before putting end plate (Plastic) on I Pre screw the screw in to a depth that is Just below the the surface you must go in and Out slowly to reach proper Depth. this will make that Plate fully in place it only need to Lightly touch so it does not move. Point and case Once someone tripped on the cord and the unit flew hitting the Tiled floor. No Damage. new unit now has a Shorter cable. This has good speed even with older drive (180MB PS) on mine. Don't over think the Plastic it is good Quality Built to Last at a low cost. Hope this helps

Used to have my hard drives in “simplecom” external enclosures however these proved unreliable. Vantec whilst more expensive provided reliability which is a must in my use case. Enclosure also works with 22TB drive in case anyone is like me and needs to use it for such big storage.

Easy assembly. Works great. Short of buying an all-aluminum iCAN this is the best plastic ended/aluminum body enclosure I've ever bought. All connections are crisp & solid, good quality ON/OFF switch, decent plastic stand does the job. Some people complain that the ON/OFF light is on the wrong end but the light works fine and is not an issue for me. Highly recommended at this price point.
