These are a blast! I never thought I'd say that about lightbulbs..
I purchased 2 of these, as well as Philips Hue White and Color Ambiance Kit , which included 4x Gen 3.0 (glass) bulbs. The Lifx+ Bulbs definitely seem superior in my honest opinion. They are brighter, the color range seems wider, and the color temperature calculation is more accurate IMO. I also like the shape better, though I can see how the Hue bulbs may fit better in some fixtures, this isn't a problem for me. I have been working to program a piece of software to run my house lighting. I have this program syncing with f.lux, so the color temperature is always correct with the day night cycle, while also keeping it in sync with my monitor's color temperature. This has been working pretty great so far, but honestly I've found the Hue API to be a bit better. Lifx offers a LAN API, but it is a bit primitive. The other API uses web requests, which take a second or two to process. Thanks to Hue's bridge, the API calls are a bit quicker and more reliable. This isn't a huge issue though, as the Hue bulbs respond in about 1 to 2 seconds, while the Lifx bulbs respond in 2-4 seconds. The wait time is no issue for me. The Lifx APIs are still very capable, and very easy to use. My only real complains are the delay, as well as the random "429 Too many requests" error, despite me being no where near the advertised rate limits. I'm using the same software to control both my Lifx and Hue bulbs, and I'm monitoring my web requests very closely. I make about 2 requests per minute on average, never exceeding 20 requests. The API documentation states "Currently, each access token is limited to 120 requests for a 60 second window", but somehow I keep getting the 429 error randomly. Other than the API issues which are admitted a niche concern, I've had absolutely no issues with these bulbs. All in all, I had no idea I could have so much fun with a lightbulb..

Great bulb if you need a dual purpose solution. IR source is 940nm.
Overall this is a great light. I have a unique lighting situation from what I found and this serve its purpose. The light is bright and has a wide gamut of colors. I installed 2 of these and the app installation was easy at first but I could not get it to connect to Alexa. I noticed in the Lifx app it said the cloud was disconnected, but I was logged into the app and did the setup procedure as instructed. I almost put it away in disappointment when I decided to reset the bulb and try an install a second time. This time it worked and it linked it to the cloud. Alexa was able to find it and now controls the bulb with no problem. So I set up a 2nd bulb and the installation was much easier and worked flawlessly. If you install this bulb in a lighting fixture, you need to make sure it stays powered on, or else the IR will not work and the bulb will not connect to wifi. I installed mine in a socket connected to a light switch and can turn the light on and off with the switch without losing power to the bulb. To do this I did the following: 1. Installed a z-wave light switch. 2. Connected the lead and load wires together and connected them to the Z-wave lead(hot) terminal, so the light remains on all the time. The z-wave switch will continue to toggle its status. 3. Installed the Lifx bulb and app 4. Connect switch and bulb to a smart hub(i.e. Vera, smartthings, etc..) 5. Set bulb to toggle on and off in sync with switch. (create a scene or smart app in hub) 6. Viola!!!!!!!! Enjoy!! So far it works like a charm. IR The IR light works when the light is powered off through the app or other remote device. If the bulb power is cut the bulb will not work. But when power is reapplied it will turn on to its last lighting state. Once the light is off the IR turns on automatically. It works on a wave length higher than 940nm meaning it can not be seen by the naked eye and there is no noticeable red glow like IR bulbs on surveillance cameras. Those are generally around 850nm. If your camera is not IR sensitive to 940nm then it will not work. In my experience with this bulb the IR worked well and served its purpose in my application. I noticed the IR light source is more intense coming from the top of the bulb rather than the sides and is not as even as the actual visible light from the bulb. But if you needed a bulb with a dual purpose then this is a winner. Pros: 1. Light works well and has a good strong signal to my wifi router 2. Does not require a hub to connect 3. Wide color gamut. 4. Fun quick settings and scenes in the app (like flicker, strobe, music sync.) 5. IR works well with IR enabled cameras sensitive to 940nm 6. Works with Alexa, Vera, Smartthings, Nest, IFTTT.......... Cons 1. App is a little buggy. The app froze a couple of times while circling the color wheel. I saw this on a video review and they had the same results. 2. Setup wasn't perfect. I don't know why it did not connect properly the first time but after a reinstall it worked fine. 3. Pricey..The closest competition to these are the Phillips hue color bulbs which are cheaper but require a hub. But hue does not have the IR feature(yet). Overall this is a good bulb if you find you need a dual purpose solution.

Jetson's eat your heart out - we’re living in the future now! And it has night vision!
Much like the LIFX, the LIFX + has all the next level color, brightness and awesome functional features of its sibling. If you want my thoughts about all that stuff see my review on the new LIFX A19. In summary, they’re great. 5 stars. Now, the LIFX +. I liked the idea (it’s a bit crazy James Bond tech feeling) and hey, I was getting LIFX anyway so figured I’d get a mix. The main difference is that the + have a whole added channel of light for ‘night vision enhancement’. Whenever the bulb is not set to visible light it puts out infrared that is invisible to the eye (it also switches it on when they’re set to super dim). Why did I bother? Well… Have you ever been lying in bed at night and then there is a creepy noise? You and your significant other have a bit of a “debate” over whether or not it needs investigation or who will go check and you're kind of freaked out? Solution: just set up some little cams at key locations in your house, along with a couple of these babies and use an app to check from bed. And if there IS someone lurking about just turn all the LIFX in your house on red with said phone and totally scare them off! Problem solved. Yes, cameras do work without LIFX + boosting the vision but I figured I’d rather upgrade the lights and have fewer cams as that was less 1984-esque. Another thing I've noticed from my testing so far is that the super infrared makes windows really easy to see through (normally hard with cameras at night) and lights up all those weird nooks and creepy, dark halls in older places so it is a big improvement on just the camera alone. Some potential bonus uses that might add some value: hilarious night time pet antics captured, proof there aren’t ghosts in your house, know who is raiding the fridge, watch your baby sleep, see who’s stealing your paper at dawn… the list goes on. In summary: this is already a 5 star product but with super innovative functionality added in that you can’t get in other smart lights.

Lights out due to network issues
UPDATE: Lifx Horrible - BUYERS BEWARE I have purchased 6 Lifx bulbs. One died and they never replaced. Customer support was lame at best. Initially trying to troubleshoot their cloud issue and all could say is that it was my ISP problem. Turned out after many hours it was a common issue with a double-NAT setting. I had assumed they would be aware of this issue. If you have bulbs on common switch and they are in spaces that require a ladder to get to… well good luck. They regularly loose connection, need resetting, etc. Which requires you turn the switch on/off 5 times. If you have multiple on a switch they all get reset. Now, insult to injury is that they default pair to Apple HomeKit. But older bulbs don’t have an HK code. So again, frustrating experience getting paired. I am now am trying to reset one bulb and it has been an hour and still can’t get on network. “Smart” home they are not. ----------------- Long story short, two months after I purchased four of them, I have yet to get them connected to the "cloud". Their support was pretty poor. The answer was: talk to your ISP. No suggestions or other support. Hours with ISP to figure out how to 'port-forward' (which isn't required by any of the other 20 smart home connected devices I have) I still couldn't get these to work. Without cloud connectivity they have no schedule capability, no IFTTT integration, no control when you are way... pretty much expensive LEDs. Last hope was it was double-NAT issue (Google WiFi & Comcast), but that didn't work either.

Essential for baby monitors!
This bulb is fantastic. Not only do you get the endless colors and white levels of a normal LIFX bulb, but what really sets this apart is the infrared light that gets emitted. If you have a baby monitor or security camera, often the images are hidden in darkness in certain areas that are very dark. Not any more! I have this in my young daughter's bedroom. She likes to have a "night light" on, but I don't want it on all night. So, I can program the bulb to turn off after a certain period. Once this bulb is turned "off", it begins to emit the infrared light. Obviously it can't be seen so the room is still dark. However, now one when I check on her with the baby monitor, it looks as if her room is completely lit up, and I have a much better view than without the bulb.

Colored Alarms
Love this light! Set up your schedule for reminders. Choose a color to let you know its time to leave for work. Set a color and a dim brightness to let you know you have more or less time to snooze. Turn the lights ON before you get home and OFF after you leave. Use the themes for parties and holidays. Coolest thing I've purchased in a while.

Best in category
I started with one. Currently I have 12. These things are awesome in my opinion. Besides the multitude of colors and, the different whites, when I use them for photography, It's super easy to set them up to match the color of my video and strobe lights They were having some issues with the application at the beginning of the year but, they seem to have finally got that fixed. The app and the widgets work great on my LG V20, LG x10.1 tablet and there is also an app on the microsoft store also that works great on my pc's. No hub needed for these babies. Plus they work great with either Alexa Dot or Google Home. And if you use video surveillance for your kids room or anywhere in the house, you can set them up to have infared when you turn the lights off All that and you set different timers, different themes, and you can also make them work as strobe or party lights that follows your music

The highest rated smart home LED bulb in my opinion (though I wouldn't use it everywhere)
The Lifx+ bulbs are probably the best smart home LED lights right now. I have personally rated them higher than the Philips Hue Color Ambiance bulbs BUT as of right now, if you're running Apple Home, you won't be able to Lifx+ bulbs with Siri. There are two features that differentiate the Lifx+ and regular Lifx bulbs. If you're home doesn't need IR LEDs and water protection, I'd suggest you go with the regular Lifx bulbs (which I have reviewed as well). Use the Lifx+ either outside, or in your bathrooms or areas of high moisture. Pros: - Bright (1100 lumens) - IR LED (enhances visual range of smart home cameras like Nest Cam Indoor/IQ) - Water resistant Cons: - Expensive Again, if you want the full story on the Lifx bulb, check out my review on that product. I'll summarize that review after I go through the differentiating features. I've done a comparison between the Lifx bulbs and the Philips Hue Color Ambiance so check out my site in the profile. The IR LED's is going to be useful for people running night-vision enabled smart home cameras such as the Nest Cam IQ/Indoor as well as the D-Link Omna. From my basic testing, I was able to get the a distance of 40 ft with the IR LED's which basically doubles the IR LED's found on the Nest and D-Link Cameras. The bulb itself gets quite warm even though it looks "off" so you know something is going on. I will admit that it was mildly creepy being able to see myself in my smart home camera's feed while I was stumbling around in a dark room. For the extra water protection, Lifx doesn't give the bulb any sort of IP rating (I would have expected at least an IP67 rating) but does state that the bulb can be used outside as long as there is no direct contact with water. So make sure you use the bulbs in a covered porch or in a steamy bathroom. The extra $20 dollars adds up fast so I would be picky where I use the bulbs. I personally wouldn't use them as my base bulb, I'd go with a set of regular Lifx bulbs. Now if you remove the IR LED's and extra water protection, you're basically stuck with a regular Lifx bulb. Which is a good thing! The standout feature for the Lifx bulb is the brightness at 1100 lumens. That's approx. 70% brighter than the average Hue Color Ambiance bulb. I use a full set of Lifx bulbs in my basement/office/video review area and the brightness is noticeable. I love being able to set the working area to a nice cool color to help focus my minds in the morning and a warm color at night while I power down for the night. The Lifx app is well designed with the standout feature being the "effects". These effects are basically "scenes" on steroids and some of the effects allow you to interact with the lights such as the music visualizer. Check out the video to see it in action! Some will say the lack of base station is a plus but unless you have a hard to reach router, that shouldn't be an issue for most people. Happy Smart Home Lighting!

You'll never go back to ordinary light bulbs
I love these. I have a LIFX + (A19) and a regular LIFX (A19). Both work great. I use them with Alexa all the time, and never have any problem. I always use Alexa voice commands to dim the bulbs and change them to my desired colour. When I go to bed, I tell Alexa "Good Night", and she turns the bulbs off. These are well-built, reliable bulbs, and they never seem to lose connection with the Wi-Fi. If you happen to turn the bulbs off with the light switch (instead of with a connected device), the bulb very quickly re-connects to Wi-Fi when you turn the light switch back on. I have just ordered two more of these for other rooms.

light does everything as promised but
Now this light does everything as promised but i wm not sure why i really need it or paid so much for it? After trialling for a few weeks it has been automated to go on and off but color stays the same and the bulbs that cost 1/5 the price are just as good and do the same. A neat gimmick but will you really use it ??

Great product.
Easy setup, vibrant colors & brighter than expected. I love the integration with my Google Home mini that allows me to control the light with my voice. (On/Off, intensity & color) The fact that it doesn't have a hub makes it very easy to install. The application is well made & easy to use.

LIFX bulbs currently turn themselves on after a power outage
LIFX bulbs currently turn themselves on after a power outage and LIFX promised to fix this back in January 2016. The bulb will power back on to its last on state. Meaning if the brightness was at 1% it will come back at 1%, but that is only true if the power goes off and on once. More often than not the power will bounce a few times and the bulb will reset itself coming back on at 100% brightness. Lucky for me I only bought one bulb, unlucky for me I used it as an IR source for the baby monitor. I wish I was aware of this issue before buying such an expensive bulb.
