Tastes like crab to me
This is tiny shredded pieces of crab me…no lumps in here. It does rate like crab so it delivers what it says. Because it cut so fine it works well on crackers by itself, but a little mayo definitely helps to keep the whole thing together and stuck to the cracker. One thing I noticed was there is no paper between the meat and the can. Maybe the can is treated, maybe the paper present in other brands doesn’t do anything, but it’s worth noting because so many other brands have the paper present.

Not like fresh crab
I immediately opened one can and tasted it with a teaspoon. And, it was nasty. I mean, actually nasty tasting. That said, I bought 12 6-ounce cans of this to make gumbo (for a really good price of about $29, about $6.4/pound). So, I put aside my initial bad tasting experience, and started my gumbo. I'm from New Orleans, and we cook everything with sauteed diced onions and bell pepper. I also fumbled a bunch by using a pre-mix package from Walmart for $1.49 which includes rice and all the spices without having to do the whole rue thing with flower and such. The instructions call for adding all of the ingredients and cooking for about 25 minutes. But, that is for uncooked meat (chicken, shrimp, crab, or whatever). So, for me having already cooked crab meat out of the can, I just did all of the usual prep for about 20 minutes or so, and then added the pre-cooked canned crab meat after that. I usually cook my stuff way more than what they say. I cooked this prep (with onions, bell pepper, and gumbo mix) for about 25 minutes and then added the 2 pounds of canned crab meat. Then, I simmered it for another 15 minutes. It came out fabulous. My favorite is crawfish gumbo, and crawfish is hard to get in the can. And then, crab is my favorite seafood anyway, and I just had to try at least what I could get my hands on at the moment. Five pounds of canned crab meat from Amazon in a couple of days delivered to my home for free can't be beat. I have read other reviews here that talk about this crab meat for a dip. I would not recommend that. Like I said, out of the can it tasted really nasty. But cooked and blended with other ingredients, it turned out actually really good. I also drained out all of the water before adding it to the gumbo. That might make a difference. I think I have seen other people say that draining the water from the can and then rinsing the crab meat makes it taste much better. This canned crab meat is excellent for an added seafood in some larger dish, not for use as a dip with crackers or potato chips.

Great for crab cakes. Finely minced but good flavor
The crab is really finely minced so don't expect big lump crab; but the taste is good. It works great for crab cakes and the price per ounce is pretty great.

50% water and very bland fine stringy meat
Very disappointed in this product. Mostly water and very fine bland stringy crab meat. Waste of money. I bought 12 cans and they all were the same. See picture attached.

Actually I do not understand much in the Crabmeat - I haven't got with what to compare - I've bought this one and the red one -
I still have plenty of it (after many months..). Actually I do not understand much in the Crabmeat - I haven't got with what to compare - I've bought this one and the red one - and I didn't like both. It has NO TASTE... and very little pieces shredded pieces as if they used a blender.. these pieces are in some water??.. I've tried to make salads with it - so I could eat a little .. I will not buy it again - especially such a huge amount. I definitely had to buy less before - to taste first.
