Piece of junk
This clock was definitely not worth the high price. The cuckoo sounds fake and hollow, like a recording. After about a week it completely stopped working; the hands wouldn't turn and the cuckoo wouldn't sound at all, even after the batteries were changed. The only reason I give it 2 stars instead of one is because it does look nice. But that's all it is - a high-priced, non-functional wall ornament. It doesn't pay to buy junk that's made in China.

HUNK OF JUNK
This is a nice sized cuckoo clock, with a nice, high gloss finish. I like the light sensor that turns off the cuckoo during the nite time hours. On the hour, before the bird comes out his door, there is a chirping sound. It does have an echo, not bothersome to me, just a bit unusual and is the only reason I did not give it 5 stars. The pendulum on my clock is quite and does not make any noise. Not sure why several others are having a problem, maybe the pendulum is rubbing against the magnet that makes it go back and forth. All in all, I am very happy with my purchase.----------------------------------------------------09/09/2010 UPDATE: I wanted to update my first review now that I have had the clock for several weeks. I have had to replace the batteries every 3 to 4 weeks, which is a concern as the product description indicates only have to replace once a year (even if they are still working). I know my batteries are dead when the cuckoo comes out on the hour, and is stuck, and the pendulum stops moving. So, I would suggest that you keep an extra set of d batteries on hand and a battery charger. I have also noticed that the price HAS DROPPED since my purchase, so I am concerned there are others not too pleased with this clock. So I have shut off the cuckoo and am only using it as a wall clock for now. Therefore, I have lowered my item rating.-----------------------------------------------------09/20/2010 UPDATE: What a piece of junk this is. Even with the cuckoo turned off, which defeats why I bought a cuckoo clock in the first place, it still is not working. Every few days the pendulum just stops, I have to take it down from the wall, giggle the batteries around in the back, then it will work for a few more days. I've had it and am going to attempt to return this piece of junk. I would recommend to anyone wanting a cuckoo clock is spend the extra money and purchase a real cuckoo clock made in Germany. I have already ordered a German made cuckoo clock and eagerly awaiting delivery to replace this hunk of junk.

Kassel Hand Carved Cuckoo Clock
This finish of the clock is very eye catching and for the most part is wooden. The hands of the clock, the bird and the bird cage are made of plastic. It is the closest one may get to a real Cuckoo without the high capital outlay. Persons who cannot be bothered with the mechanics of the traditional Cuckoo clock will find the battery-operated version convienent. It displays accurate times. Persons may find it challenging to syncronize the chime to the hour as the set-up manual does not contain clear instructions on this aspects. The clock arrived on time and in perfect condition. This review is based on the fact that I have only recently installed the components and hung the clock. More time is needed to determine its worth. The three stars is based on not being able to synchronize the chime with the hour after a few tries.

Worked beautifully out of the box and no noise save for cuckoo...
I was impressed - beautiful clock and BIG. I was surprised at the sheer size This thing is one big Cuckoo! It is well made and I noted that when the movement eventually does go out, it can easily be replaced - lots of room to work in the case - a perfect set up for keeping it running over time. Klockit has replacement movements, so all the commentary about the clock being "bad" is not quite true - Most clocks can easily be worked on with these less expensive quartz movements and so it is just a matter of finding the supplier. What you really pay for is the wood case in a lot of the more expensive clocks and then the movement is almost an afterthought. In this case, the prices of the wood carving and the movement make this clock a total bargain at about $80 at the time of my purchase. For now, it is working great and it makes me laugh to hear the cuckoo come out - very well done and I like the echo effect. It is quite easy to tell the time and set it up to run. Two "D" size batteries to get it going. The night-switch off of the cuckoo works as advertised and I can say that the clock will certainly be an heirloom piece, even though it isn't the vaunted "Black Forest" label. I note that you can get the real "Black Forest" movements from the German companies that make these and then carve your own cuckoo clock and have something truly unique for a LOT less money, so that is something to think about. Just Google around and you can find components to do your own version and have something special. For my needs though, this clock worked great as a first cuckoo. I collect clocks and I'll definitely get another type of cuckoo soon.Recommendation and rating: 5 stars and yes, worth it in my opinion.

Working great so far...
This is a replacement for an original clock. The clock was shipped on time. Assembly is easy. Only a minor issue was that the hour hand is very loose and had to tighten it a bit to make it sync with sounds. So far it's working great!

Disagreeable Indeed
I was most displeased when I saw the plastic face and hands. The poor little coo coo bird is also fabricated from cheap plastic. Most disappointing is the low quality recording with a very fake watery sound in the background. Most of all, I am less than fond of the echoing coo, it sounds as though the bird is singing each sound twice. That being said, I find the wood box to be lovely and well done. The clock does indeed keep rather good time and the ability to turn off the dreaded coo cooing is a nice feature. That the clock is light sensitive is a bonus feature. If its a realistic coo coo sound you're after, refrain from this purchase. If you are not easily offended by cheap recordings, perhaps you will find this timepiece whimsical.
