Works great in Lenovo Thinkpad E540. Save your DVD bezel to re-use
I replaced a DVD R/W in a Lenovo Thinkpad E540 with the Highfine Universal Caddy and installed a 1TB Samsung SSD as the storage device. Here are my observations: -- WORKS PERFECT: After installed , it worked perfectly first time. -- EASY INSTALL: Very easy to install. -- NO INSTRUCTIONS PROVIDED. No instructions needed. There is plenty of Utube and other helpful instructions online. -- NEED TO REUSE SOME PARTS: You need to save the metal tab on the end and carefully remove the DVD plastic bezel to reuse. -- UNIVERSAL BEZEL NOT A PERFECT FIT: It comes with a flat plastic universal bezel but my E540 laptop has a highly beveled attachment. While the universal bezel will fit, there is a large gap underneath and probably not good for the highly engineered air flow needed to keep the electronics cooled. If your replacing a DVD save the bezel to re-use. -- DON'T BUY A CADDY ON EBAY!: I purchased a caddy on Ebay and over several days had problems with random blue screen and rebooting. The contacts on the connectors appeared thin and dull. When I would flex the laptop buy picking it up with one hand the laptop would blue screen or reboot. -- HIGHFINE IS BETTER QUALITY: The Highfine caddy is subtlety different then the Ebay unit and the Highfine caddy SATA contacts look more robust, thicker with better quality gold vaporized on the contacts. When I pick up the laptop as mentioned above there were not issues with rebooting or blue screen. All around 100% better than ebay.

Works on Dell R610 Server
Putting together a LAB environment in my house to practice my skills and chase after a few certs. Purchased a used Dell r610 server, a couple hard drives and this CDROM/HDD converter kit from here. I wanted to take advantage of the sata port the cdrom was connected to, seeing that I wasn’t going to be using the cdrom for anything in the foreseeable future, and if needed, I have a external USB one just in case. Right off the bat, the Hard Drive Caddy Adapter worked like a champ. The Dell R610 had zero issues recognizing the SSD hard drive once I booted it up. Installation went pretty straight forward, with only one minor hiccup. The holes for the little plastic bit that used to secure the cdrom to the case didn’t match up between the Dell’s cd rom and the adapter. This wasn’t anything that couldn’t be fixed with a little nail and equally as little hammer. The metal casing for the caddy is pretty thin, little too thin is you ask me, so I had no issue driving a pilot hole into the back of the caddy to match up with the holes on the plastic locking piece. As for the overall caddy size, it was darn near identical in dimensions with the cdrom I removed from the server, darn near except that the caddy was a hair shorter in height, enough so that it left a noticeable gap when I inserted into the server. Not a show stopper, but still something someone might notice in a similar setup. This by no means affected the caddy in any way, the plastic locking bit was still ale to engage, and the SATA/Power cable (Yes I know this is not the right term for what being using on the server) was still able to connect. Overall, I was happy I spent the extra couple buck to utilize what would have been a wasted sata port on my server.

Weird. It works. But...
I don't know quite how to rate this product. On the one hand, it works in my Thinkpad T410. On the other hand, it just does not inspire confidence. Why? Because unlike the 2nd HDD caddies I have in a Lenovo V570 and a Thinkpad W510, this one has NO screws securing the drive in the caddy whatsoever! It CAME with 4 screws, but all I was able to do was screw those 4 screws into the sides of the SSD before inserting the drive into the caddy. There's NO WAY to actually screw the SSD INTO the caddy. And the little black flap at the base doesn't actually TOUCH the drive, so while the drive is in there (and I DID try it before screwing the screws into the sides of the SSD and it was MUCH worse, so the side screws do seem to help stabilize the drive somewhat), it just doesn't make sense to me. I don't think it's going anywhere, and the whole unit does fit nicely into the laptop with no problems either inserting it or ejecting it. And the SSD is definitely recognized and 100% functional. So that's the good news. The weird part is that is just doesn't seem as secure as it should be. I did pull back a little bit on the drive so that it at least now touches the black flap at the bottom. And now that it makes contact it seems to have made it a little more stable, without breaking the contact where the drive plugs into the SATA ports of the caddy. But it's just a weird way to secure the drive. The other two caddies have 4 holes in the bottom to secure the drive via 4 screws. THAT makes sense to me. This does not. But what can I say? It appears to be an inexpensive way to add a 2nd HDD. At least for now. So for the price, I guess I'll try this for the time being and see if anything changes down the road. At 1/4 the price of a NewModeUS caddy (which is what I have in my other two laptops) it's worth a shot. If anything changes I'll update this review. NOTE: I did go ahead and purchase the NewModeUS caddy just to be on the safe side. HDD caddy adapter Lenovo Thinkpad T410s T420s T430s Ultrabay 9.5mm (original Newmodeus caddy w/ carrying pouch) I just don't like the idea of that thing being less than 100% secure in there. So even though it's almost 4 x's as expensive, I KNOW it works and will have piece of mind, especially since laptops do get turned upside down when they're being transported and while I never abuse my laptops they do get moved during normal use.

Add Storage in a Snap
This caddy allows a quick increase in onboard storage for any laptop equipped with a DVD drive. My HP has a screw on the bottom of the case that allowed me to pull the DVD player out of the side of the laptop and insert the caddy with a new SSD that doubled capacity immediately and seamlessly. The caddy is well made and fitted the original DVD player plastic bezel perfectly. The single retaining screw fit correctly and secures the caddy solidly. A good value with quick and easy installation.

Great for anyone.
The adapter does work out of the box no problems. A good buy to extend the useful life of an old laptop.

Flimsy, but sometimes works.
This product is very cheaply made. I've ordered a couple of them now and they've all been flimsy and temperamental to install. The most recent one didn't work at all, and after opening it up, I found that it had a cracked PCB board and I had to get a replacement ordered. 2/3 working isn't bad but I wish they spent a little more time designing a sturdier product.
