Do these work with 16 guage speaker wire? Also should I wrap one plug in electrical tape since thereceiver slots are close togeather?

16 AWG no problem. My preferred speaker wire is 12AWG. Much thicker than 16. Never a problem. What you may encounter is the 16 is too thin for the screws to grab securely. Also, despite the other ‘expert’ comments, you do not need to put any tape or insulation on the outside. The ferrules are insulated and non conductive As long as there’s no bare wire sticking out and the spring clips grab the braided ends there’s little chance of a short.

Is there any insulation over the entire metal part of the outside of this pin?

There are two major parts to each pin. There is the gold plated core with two set screws that clamp the speaker wire, and a screw on color coded aluminum barrel that protects the core from coming in contact with another pin. There is no "insulation" on the pin wire lead or core. The aluminum barrel is the only thing outside the gold core. Aluminum is a conductor though, so I would try and keep the plugs apart. I have never "tested" if they will short if they come in contact with each other. These are very easy to use and a great option if your equipment only accepts some kind of a wire lead.

Is it 12 pairs of pin connectors for a total of 24 pieces?

Yes, 24 pieces for a total of 12 pairs. With pin connectors on both ends of the wire, you need 4 connectors per wire, 8 to do a pair of speakers with connectors on all ends.

How do I secure them inside the clip? Can I cut the pin so it's shorter more secure?

The braided tip is held together at the end by a bit of solder, so clipping it could damage the wires and cause them to unravel. The wire is secured by a pair of set screws.
