Nice To Have Handy
This sharpener does the job in a pinch. Bought for the boat as a "quick use" hook sharpener and it does satisfactory work. It is not a fine sharpening tool but I do like the three grooves choice which allows sharpening a variety of size hooks. Will not sharpen small, trout type hooks. One downfall of this type lineal groove sharpener is that it will not do circle or octopus type hooks because you can not get the hook point inside the sharpening groove. Nice quality for the price knowing it is not a high end tool.

Great little sharpener
This is actually my second time purchasing this product. My truck was broken into just before Christmas and all of my fishing gear was stolen. I liked my previous one so much I had to buy another one. I fish a lot of rock bottom lakes and the hook points inevitably get dulled or slightly bent. It is not practical in time nor money to replace the hook every few casts. A few swipes on this sharpener and they are good to go. It fits in the hand nicely and even has a hole were you can attach it to a keychain or lanyard for easy access.

Double duty, also blunts wire ends for jewelry making
This is the second one I've bought... the first is in the tackle box for its stated use of sharpening fish hooks. At the shore, hooks can get dull in the sand, and sometimes they get just a little rusty overnight in the salt spray. A few quick strokes through the groves of this sharpener, and they're like new again. This one is in with my jewelry tools for wire wrapping. Rubbing the cut end of a wire back and forth a few times rounds it off nicely, much more easily than using a file. Sharp tips for my hooks, and no more sharp ends in my jewelry!

Perfect for musky lures
Nice and wide grooves to get larger hooks sharpened. It could be a little more coarse but seems to get the job done so far. I would not recommend planning on carrying it with you as some other people mentioned, I have a smaller sharpener to take out on the boat on my person.

Sharpens fine, hard to use
You can keep your hooks sharp, it's just not as good as the old fashioned three sided files that used to be in every bait and tackle shop back in the days. It's too big to fit in any hook gap so you have to manipulate the hook against it which is the least effective way to sharpen.

Great value at 5 dollars would be better if it had a lanyard
Used these to sharpen heavy duty Gamakatsu circle hooks and Eagle Claw J hooks. Tool did the job and quickly too. Very compact design can easily be put in a tackle box. The once dull hooks had no problems penetrating the jaws up the striped bass after the sharpening. Wish it had a lanyard but made my own with some polyster twine. Great buy especially for $5

Perfect for filing handmade earring hooks!
I had been using an emery board to smooth the ends of the sterling silver earwires I make for my jewelry, which was tedious and frustrating. I searched around to see if there was a better option, and saw a link to this on a jewelry forum. Perfect! A few swipes with the end of the wire in the groove, and they're nice and smooth. Didn't even know they made such a tool, and I certainly never would've thought of using it for filing earwires!

I am relatively new to darts having purchased a Blade 4 a few weeks ago, I also purchased a set of 23g 90% tungsten steel tip darts to use to play darts. Being the noob I am I didn't realize the implications of using 'needle sharp' darts on a sisal bristle dartboard, and in a few weeks the Blade 4 was beginning to get hard and I started getting a few bounce-outs. Researching online and on YouTube I realised that the darts should have a rounded tip, and after reading the comments I then came across this sharpener and purchased. The sharpener is a great tool for achieving a rounded tip and perpendicular grooves. I used this guide on YouTube [...] The darts now slide round wires and not nick them improving the longevity of the dartboard. I also noticed the darts do not go in deep in the dartboard and can be easily removed, ensuring the fibres are not pulled excessively. Thanks to this item my Blade 4 is now in good shape ready for years of practice and use. 5 stars.
