Extaordinarily Fabulous Pastry Brush
After years of getting by with a less than adequate nylon bristle brush, one that you get from your local general type store, I bit the bullet, did some research, and found this gem.Now when I baste my fragile crusts they don't get torn apart from the bristles and the natural bristles hold the liquid for basting so much better. You won't regret purchasing this "can't be without" tool.

Reviews all over the place
I just got the 1" white bristle one. Just like the ones I used to use at my pizzeria for brushing garlic butter. Was pretty confused when I ordered at all the different reviews, not sure this will help but here goes.Made in USA. Seems some were made in China, those reviews seemed to have a lot of shedding. This one was made in USA and no shedding. ( They will throw off a bristle every once in a while, its normal if you use it a lot). Like many of the reviews stated, this was raw wood, not laquered as described. Which doesnt matter much to me, I prefer more food safe coatings, so i treat all my wood utensils with an oil/beeswax blend, keeps it conditioned without toxic chemicals. Speaking of toxic chemicals, brings me to the last point, which some reviews mentioned the smell. I washed it with very hot water, and remembering those reviews, I smelled it and was not expecting....dry cleaning chemical smell. WTF. So I washed it with dish soap, soaked it in vinegar, baking soda, still have it in water which im changing out with hot water until the smell is 100% gone. It's why I reduced the stars, but I really want a natural brush so I will keep on till its 100% neutralized. Cause I hate silicone brushes, they're only good for basting thick sauces. If it doesn't matter that much to you, you might want to pass on this. If you want an old school bristle brush, maybe it's worth it to you to mess with the smell remediation, but I wouldn't use it on food until the smell was gone.

High Quality Pastry Brush
I have been using this Ateco model #60015 1.5" wide pastry brush for a couple of months now, and I am extremely happy with the results and quality. I bought this based on the recommendation from Cook's Illustrated America's Test Kitchen. I use it just for light things, such as brushing butter on delicate doughs. The most delicate dough I have used this with is filo dough. I have no issues of it grabbing or tearing the dough. This has been by far the best brush I have ever used.I also have an OXO Good Grips silicone brush. I like it for heavier sauces, but I don't like it for brushing on butter or working with delicate dough. This is what prompted me to get the Ateco pastry brush. I recommend having both types of brushes and using them for different tasks. The Ateco 60015 brush I received was just like the one pictures. It say Ateco 60015 on the handle, along with natural bristle and made in U.S.A. The metal says stainless steel. There is nothing to indicate what kind of bristles that brush has. I own pig bristle and horse hair brushes, and bristles seem similar but softer than my pig bristle brush. This brush is very high quality, and I expect it to last me for years.

Amazing Brush! White Bristle is the only way to go!
First, I took a chance, and purchased 2 of these brushes, and I am SO glad I did. One for Pastry and one for the Grill. As a Pastry brush, it's Wonderful, It's everything you want in a good pastry brush. The white bristles make all the difference in the world. It's a good size brush, and find that the small ones take forever to use, and with the white bristles you don't have to worry about being gentle with it, they do that for you. I cook a lot, and don't have time to be very delicate, and take forever, when a light touch of butter needs to be washed over my poofy buns. This is the PERFECT White Bristle Brush for pastry. I also gave up on the standard BBQ mops, brushes, etc. and I can already tell, that this brush will be perfect for that purpose too, so my search for a good brush is over, I will never search again, this is it, the perfect brush. The quality is great, White Bristle Brushes work better than any other, and I'm just thrilled with them.PS Fast shipping too!

An absolute kitchen tool
I bought this brush for my Greek dishes, specifically to use on phyllo, based on the recommendation of the PBS show "America's Test Kitchen".5 stars!! Love it for brushing melted butter on the delicate sheets of phyllo. I also anticipate using it when I have to dust flour away from my cut out cookies.

Does its job
So far, I've used this a couple of times to apply egg wash to pie crusts and it works well and is soft enough that it doesn't damage a embossed crust if you are gentle. I did have one black bristle fall out onto a pie, but the black color makes it easy to see and remove. So far, so good...

Not item described
I received a Made in China (claimed to be made in USA), not lacquered (claimed to be lacquered), and with synthetic polyester bristles (not natural bristles). It seems I have received a bootlegged version of this product. The bristles are also so stiff that they would tear any pastry or dent dough when used. Be warned you might receive either the USA or China made brush according to other reviewers.

Great brush! Great size!
I like this little brush. It's a great size for food detail work. No bristle shedding so far and I've used it for chocolate and egg.

Good
It's definitely better than other cheaper options on Amazon. As shown in the picture, the left is the 2" Ateco pastry brush and the right the a cheap 3" pastry brush that I got on Amazon last week.

Very rarely had bristles coming off and normally only with stickier strips. A little dense and therefore can occasionally be hard to clean.
