What is the purpose of letting it soak for 1 hour with only 1 gallon of water before running the wash cycle?

Soaking helps the cleaner penetrate the deposits of contaminants that can build up over time, allowing for them to be more easily broken down and removed during the wash cycle.

It is cruelty-free which is why I chose this product. :)

How strong is the natural orange scent? I am hoping that it would not linger and get into the laundry washed after the cleaning cycle is done. Thanks.

Scent does not linger. We had a nasty smell in our laundry room. Traced it to the washer, used Oh Yuk twice and odor has not returned. Definitely recommend.

If I use this product after the expiration date, will there be any effect?

Typically..unless there is an obvious visible problem with the product...I at least double the time to expiration and still use it..in most cases it's fine...and often it doesn't work at that point there are no harmful effects..itsimply doesn't work. :-]
