Cheerful rural villages, prairies, forests, lakeside scenery, and a beautiful towering castle await you and your colored pencils in this sequel to Romantic Country: A Fantasy Coloring Book by Japanese illustrator Eriy, who uses an ink-dipped toothpick to draw each intricate design. Inside are pages and pages of provincial delights for you to bring to life through coloring: delectable French pastries, magical forests filled with fairies, charming town squares bustling with people―and so much more, sure to delight people of all ages. Perfect for fans of Secret Garden and Enchanted Forest , as well as those looking for a creative way to relax, Romantic Country: The Second Tale will whisk you away to a black-and-white fantasy land that you can bring to colorful life. Review: Beautiful Fantasy land of Cocot in Second Tale – printed on both sides of the page - I so loved the first book in this series, “Romantic Country”, I didn't think it would be possible for artist Eriy to come close to the success of it with her sequel book. I was wrong. If anything, I think that “Romantic Country – The Second Tale” is even better. It is a beautiful set of designs. It's hard to imagine but the artist draws her beautiful artwork using ink and a toothpick! Because of this technique, the lines of the drawings have a varying thickness and the print is lighter in tone than in other coloring books. Of the 65 designs in the book, 20 are two-page spreads. The designs take us back to the beautiful land of Cocot. There is a map at the front of the book which shows all of the landmarks. There are thumbnails at the end of the book which explain each of the designs and what and where they are in Cocot. There is a fold-out poster at the end of the book as well. The book is divided into five chapters: The Glow of Beautiful Old Castles, Magnificent Lakeside and Mountain Landscapes, Fairies and Works of Nature, The Witch and the Hidden Secret Forest, and Cheerful Town Scenes. Each of the chapter heading pages includes a lovely two-page spread designs. Additionally, the designs within each chapter relate back to the title of the chapter. There are a couple of designs at the front of the book which sit outside of the chapters. These designs are not included in the thumbnails at the back of the book. The book has a brown kraft paper style attached cover. This cover has line drawings on front and back covers which you can color if you wish. The detached dustcover is beautifully illustrated with colorful designs of Cocot. The inside of the dustcover is white. This is what I found when I was coloring in this book and testing the paper with my coloring medium. 65 Beautiful designs set in the fantasy land of Cocot. There are 20 two-page designs spreads. Designs are printed on both sides of the page Paper is cream colored, heavyweight, smooth and non-perforated. Sewn Binding Designs merge into the binding area and two-page spreads cross over the binding as well. The book opens fairly flat for coloring but a little effort is needed to color into the binding edge Alcohol-based markers bleed through this paper. I don't suggest this medium as it will ruin the design on the back of the page. If you decide to use this style of markers, I suggest a blotter page of card stock or a couple of pages of heavyweight paper under your working page to keep ink from seeping further in to the book. Water-based markers and India ink pens left slight shadows on the back of the page. I could see them and it bothered me enough not to want to use these for coloring my designs. Gel pens did not bleed through but required additional drying time. Colored pencils worked fairly well with this paper. I tested both oil and wax based pencils and had a little trouble blending with both. Due to the smooth texture of the paper, when I used a blending stick, there was a slight amount of smear versus blend. Otherwise, colored pencils worked well. Pigment went on deep and thick and I was able to easily layer multiple colors. Review: Pleasant coloring experience - Great quality adult coloring book. They used good quality paper and the pictures are very cute. No tedious designs. Just a pleasant coloring experience.

Fun and Easy Coloring
Even though this coloring book has been available for a few years, it is still worth it for someone who is new to coloring. The artist draws with a toothpick! She puts in a lot of details and shading for us, so we can be as careful or as care-free as we want when we color. Pencils, watercolor paint, and gel pens all work, maybe some markers too. In Book One, I even used some cream eyeshadow (blue sky), powder bronzer (sandy soil), and glitter nail polish (snow sparkle)! Well, coloring is supposed to be fun and creative, so go ahead.

This could be a problem...
Today is Tuesday, and Christmas is Sunday. I have to finish my Christmas shopping after work today. Then I need to spend the next three evenings wrapping. BUT I DON'T WANT TO! I received this delightful second installment of Romantic Country today, and all I want to do is go home and color! I absolutely loved the first book of this series by Eriy. It may very well be my favorite coloring book, and I own well over 100. I think I love this book even more. The artwork is more enchanting than the first book. I especially love the sections with fairies and witches. Once again we have maps of Cocot, an index at the back of the book explaining each scene, and a cute pull-out interactive poster. The dust cover is lovely and can be removed. I'm envious of Eriy. I can't even draw a straight line, but this talented artist can create beautiful artwork with just a toothpick! It's truly amazing. If I had to choose one word to describe her work, it would be "charming". I'm totally delighted and am eagerly looking forward to book 3, which is available for pre-order.

Buy this series
I love this series. In fact is one of my favorite coloring books. The reason for the four star rating instead of a five is due to two things. One, the paper is not easily forgiving to a racing and to the printing was extremely faint in this printing. I love to watch the tutorials on YouTube. Following them makes me feel like an artist which I am not but is great for adult coloring and releasing anxiety.

The details of the drawings are perfect get lost in your own world
I am enjoying this adult coloring book as it has alot of detail to color. It allows you to wander into your own little world full of buildings, towns, flowers, birds, butterfly's, and castles just about anything you can imagine. The drawings have been done on a thicker paper but it is printed on front and back. I have used coloring pencils but have not tried any other medium.

Favorite coloring books
Pros: paper quality Beautiful designs/artwork that fill most of every page Most scenes are Not too busy with tiny nonsense intricacies The adorable picture story of Cocot Nice cover Large Square pages Drawings are not dark, allowing for nice blending and shading Work well with prismacolor premiere pencils and eraser without tearing. Cons: pictures printed on both sides of the page. No perforation for clean tearing out of pages. Still my favorite books to color. I have all 3 and wish there were more.

superbe livre
Il est magique déjà la couverture est très belle en plus son contenu vous plaira absolument car les dessins sont plus beau de page en page. Le papier est assez épais donc aucun regret de mon achat. Je vous le recommande vivement, j'adore le colorier car il est passionnant.

Terrible paper, smaller size than published
I have been wanting this book for long time but the paper quality is terrible and somehow this is a smaller version. Doesn't match the size in the description. I ordered a second just in case it was some kind of error but it was the same, so I'm returning both of them

Imaginative and magical colouring book
This is a beautiful colouring book and I was thrilled to receive it. I love the books by Johanna Basford and until recently I hadn’t found any I liked as much, but this series is lovely. They are set in an imaginary land named Cocot. It is a beautiful place full of fairy-tale castles and windmills, lakes and forests. I especially like the ducks and cats that appear on most pages and the bookshop. There is a charm and quirkiness to the drawings in these books and when colouring them they remind me of the illustrations in a children’s picture book being brought to life with colour. I love this second book even more than the first as it is so magical and detailed. There are scenes with mermaids, unicorns, fairies and witches. It really captures the imagination and lends itself to experimenting with colour, gel pens and even embellishments. The paper is also of good quality. I would recommend having a look at this book on you tube, as you can see how gorgeous it is page by page. There are some fantastic examples of finished pages on Pinterest that will give you inspiration if you are an amateur like me! If you like Johanna Basford’s Enchanted Forest (my personal favourite) this will probably appeal to you. I am eager for the publication of the third book in May.
