Excellent in a Pinch
Excellent. We had a stash of old IDE and SATA drives from old PC's and laptops. Had no idea what was on them. This was able to read most of them - and the ones it wasn't was because the drives themselves were old and bad. Literally had an HDD from 1999 with a FAT32 system that we could not read. But the more recent SATAs were fine. So as the comments go, and as is in the instructions, for IDE, the drives have to be readable to begin with. Know that with old tech comes issues, corruption, and wear and tear. Well worth the price.

Fantastic product to read old hard drives! Easy to use and reliable!
Fantastic product! I had previously ordered a different unit and it literally blew out the minute I plugged it in - sparked and popped. I decided to give this one a try after seeing a guy on youtube who used it for the same purpose I needed it for; to see what was on a bunch of old hard drives that I had sitting around the house from old computers. I got this one all hooked up and it worked without any other effort and I was able to review the contents of both old SATA drives as well as an old SSD drive. There is a reason this one cost $5 more than the other one - because it works!

Non Functional for its Actual Use Case
TL;DR - Quality: Suspect - Value for Money: POOR - Compatibility: Unknown - Functional: No I plugged in a old EIDE drive along with the power connector. It wouldn't even boot enough to be recognized by the USB bus. Once I removed the power connector to the EIDE drive, the device was recognized. The device simply doesn't supply enough power to work when it's trying to power the drive also. That was the whole point. Do not buy, it's power supply is insufficient to power the drive and move the data even though it supposedly supplies 2A of power at 12 Volts, 24 Watts just doesn't seem to be enough.

Quick and Easy Hard Drive Reader
Had several types of hard drives containing files I needed. Old laptop drives, old desktop drives, and a Mac drive in a FireWire external enclosure. I connected three types of drives to a Windows 11 machine using this device - 3.5”IDE, 2.5”IDE, 2.5”SATA. All three worked flawlessly. It took about 5-10 seconds for each drive to show up on the Win11 box. Note that I only read files from each HD. Did not write any files. The adapter was plugged into a USB 3.0 port in my windows box and that yielded pretty fast transfer rates. Regarding the Mac FireWire drive, this was just a 3.5”IDE drive inside a FireWire enclosure. I removed the drive from the enclosure, connected it to this adapter, loaded HFSExplorer on my windows box, and was able to recover all the files from the Mac formatted HD. As others have mentioned, connecting a 3.5”IDE drive is a bit tight with the power cable. I found it easier to connect the power cable first between the adapter and the drive, then connect the IDE connector on the drive to the adapter. I thought it’s a nice touch that the adapter has three lights, each corresponding to one of the three connectors, giving you a positive indication the drive is powered. I connected it to 5 different HDs in a single day and had no issues. Cannot comment on longer term durability. Note that this is not a HD enclosure - only an adapter. If you are looking to turn an internal HD into a permanent external hard drive, this is not the product for you.

Worked fine with my 2013-14 WD HDD
This item worked fine for recovering data from an older (2013-14) western digital HDD. It had been so long that files I thought were on the HDD weren't there ......oh well. I was still able to recover some old photo and music files that I'd forgotten about. The main concern with this item for me is it is very slow and you must be patient with it - it does work, just slowly. I'm glad I bought this one and not one of the more expensive ones available.
