50 States, 5,000 Ideas: Where to Go, When to Go, What to See, What to Do

I have just started reading this book, but am sure that it will be a great resource in planning trips within the US. Looking forward to using it as I plan trips with the grandkids.

I bought this for my mom as a retirement gift and it was perfect!

I had wishlisted this book for a long time and jumped on it when it went on sale. We plan to do a lot of road trips because we haven't seen so much of what the US has to offer, and we will only be living on the east coast for 5 years, so we want to catch all of the sights before going West. I thought this would make a great planner for trips. Unfortunately, it's not as helpful as I had hoped.It only allows for a couple of pages for each state. There isn't much information you wouldn't find on the state's website or a cursory review of tripadvisor. I am from New Mexico, and the suggestions (primarily Santa Fe and Albuquerque) are no big secret; there are much cooler things to do in NM than the balloon festival, and MUCH prettier places than Albuquerque (we have the Rockies!). I live in Maryland currently, and the National Aquarium is recommended (again, that's pretty well-known), as is the RR museum (meh), but the National Wildlife Refuge is awesome and completely left out. Also, some of the suggestions are places you definitely should be cautious going to at night from a personal safety standpoint (hello Baltimore Inner Harbor). Maybe it's just preference but I didn't learn much from this book.This is a good book if you have no idea about the most common tourists spots, but if you're looking for a road guide or new ideas, this isn't it.

I got this for my husband and I. We are planning on buying a camper and to visit each state. This book has some great points of interest.

This was a gift and well received. Lots of pictures and information for site seeing.

Good book, perfect to plan a trip

Bought this book to help with holiday planning of an epic road trip.Lots of good information about each state, highlights key cities and towns with points of interest.The only downside is that it doesn't help with when to go to these states.Bit dissatisfied that it claims to tell you this on the cover, but doesn't follow through on the inside...
