Would one lapel microphone work for a wedding ceremony (party standing about 3-4 feet apart)?

In my opinion it would "kind of" work. The persons needing to be amplified would still need to speak up, and not shyly mumble their responses. And since the mic would have to be turned up, it will be apt to pick up the slightest rustlings. Ideally, everyone would be about the same distance from the mic. At the very least, make sure the person wearing the mic doesn't have it too close to his/her mouth.
