Pippi in the South Seas (Pippi Longstocking) Review: Children's literaturte that doesn't look down on children - What a marvelous, whimsical read. 'Pippi in the Sotuh Seas' is part of the Pippi Longstocking series by Swedish author Astrid Lindgren. It's not necessary to have read the earlier volumes in this series to fully enjoy this entry, as it takes place in a different location. Lindren's writing - in Pippi Longstockings in particular, and her works in general - doesn't look down on its main target audience, children. Pippi is independent, sharp, funny, and compasionate, and above all - a loyal friend. She shows, without moralising or a patronising tone, that there's no contradiction between having a free spirited, indeed - being individualistic to the max, and at the same time cultivate a divesre group of friends, from various ages (and species! let's not forgret the monkey, Mr Nilsson, who also appears in this book). Although this was written in a different day and age (and some might take issue with the portrayal of the south seas), this is a fantastic work of fiction that can easily be enjoyed by children; and appreciated by adults. Review: Happy girl - Though Pippi does not look like the original Pippi my daughter still loves the story.

Book okay
If you like Pippi Longstocking, this is one of the 3 originals. Frankly, I thought she was a brat and didn't enjoy it.

Pippi's the best!
I purchased these 3 Pippi books for my granddaughter who is a prolific reader. She read all 3 in one day and absolutely LOVED them! Received a precious thank you card just a few days later. I read all the Pippi books to my daughters when they were young. One even dressed as Pippi for Halloween one year. Used a coathanger for the brades. Good times.

Good read for a 7 yr old girl!
My daughter enjoyed this book quite a bit. I only gave it 4 stars because she liked the original Pippi book much better than this one, and it took her nearly a week to finish this. If she really loves a book, she'll read it in 1 day.

It's good there is one more book to know Pippi
I felt glad there is one more book about Pippi. This book starts right where we left in the previous book, so it focuses that the book introduces Pippi still live in Villa Villekulla. Then you can find more about her and her friendship with two siblings Tommy and Annika, and additional episodes with Pippi's father and their voyage to South Sea. Such a bonus but it's good.
