Skylanders Imaginators Starter Pack - Nintendo Switch

I am officially hooked on the series. To avoid getting too wordy with my review, I'll just say a few things: 1. The Switch version is the best version. Sure, it is missing the racing component of the other copies, but that was all bonus stuff anyway. I'm dreaming big time, but I hope it gets patched in one day. Unlikely, but maybe if I hound TFB or Activision about it on Twitter they'll cave (yeah right). 2. Creation Crystals can only be set once. Once you choose your battle class and save it to your crystal, that's it. Outside of using the 3DS Skylanders games or Giants on Wii to use an exploit to reset them, your creation crystal can never be reset. Choose wisely. This is not a problem on Switch, however, as you don't ever need to save to your crystal. Makes for a great way to let other profiles on your system create brand new characters or you can just sample a class and delete it if you don't like it to start over. This applies to all figures, really. Delete them if you want and you can use your figure to put them back in at whatever level they were before when you saved them. All characters are saved to your system. This is also PERFECT for portability, since you can save your favorites to your collection and then just load them up on the train or bus or airplane as you travel. Even on the Switch it's worth getting an extra creation crystal of the same element if it's cheap enough or included with others you don't have, since you can make another character of a different class (each figure has a unique ID... I suspect you could have 20 or more fire characters if you wanted to for whatever reason). 3. Ro-Bow, Crash & Cortex and Wild Storm all unlock special levels just by putting them in the game. Crash and Cortex (either one) will unlock the Thumpin' Wumpin' Islands, Ro-Bow will unlock the Lost Imaginite Mines and Wild Storm will unlock the Cursed Tiki Temple. Since Ro-Bow and Wild Storm are crazy high in price, I have never played those levels, but the Crash Bandicoot level is awesome. There are also two adventure packs called the Enchanted Elven Forest (you can buy it separately since it's one figure, but it comes in a pack with Boom Bloom, a sensei) and Gryphon Park Observatory (same thing, but it comes in a pack with Air Strike, another sensei). 4. More on levels: senseis unlock the level of their element. There is one for every element in the game (10 in total), like dark, life, tech, fire, water, earth, etc. King Pen and Golden Queen, the starters, give you access to the latter two levels due to their element. There is no benefit to having two characters of the same element in this regard, as there is only one level tied to their element, but it's nice to have more characters and some, as I've mentioned, unlock other levels. Ro-Bow and Cortex, for example, BOTH have their own unique levels tied to them, but also both unlock the tech element sensei realm level. 5. Silly thing to note: Trap Team villains make their return as "villain" senseis. Golden Queen comes in this pack, an old villain from that game, and you'll notice that aside from Crash, every Imaginator Sensei that doesn't have the black and gold vest is actually a redeemed villain (although Cortex obviously wasn't from Trap Team and I wouldn't call him "redeemed"). Probably a way to bring back the characters since you can't play them anymore, as trap figures don't work in the later games. The Kaos sensei is a clone of the main villain and unlocks no extra levels, but I've heard he's quite fun to play as. He is expensive, though, since scalpers got ahold of the market. It really sucks that I may never get to own him. I think I've covered enough. The game's incredibly fun and I have no doubt kids will get addicted to it if they play. Note to parents, buy a few creation crystals of different elements to let your kids create their own unique characters. I'm personally growing quite addicted and plan to unlock just about all of the content I can. At minimum, I aim to unlock all levels, if not get all senseis and creation crystals.

I think there's a stigma that Skylanders are only for kids, but that's far from the truth. I think most adults probably just pass on giving the games a try because of this. So it's basically sheer ignorance. I was one of those people until I finally decided to give them a chance with the second game, Skylanders: Giants. These games are very well designed and voice acted. They're actually quite funny and the gameplay is solid. These are high quality games with a AAA look. You can play these games on the highest difficulty if you want a real challenge. Trust me, you will need a lot of Skylanders on standby because they will die playing on the hardest difficulty. The games have items to collect that encourage exploration, every level looks unique and gorgeous, and there are some RPG elements too. Every iteration of the series has some kind of gimmick that I've never seen used in a video game and it's very innovative how they make the figures/hardware work seamlessly with the game. You can register your Skylanders figures and each one holds it's own data, such as level, moves unlocked, and currency and all of the Skylanders figures can be used in Skylanders Imaginators...that's insane! With each iteration in the series, you can use all of the Skylanders from previous games. I really wish Toys for Bob would revive this series. It was a MASSIVE success and made billions of dollars. I think people thought it was a fad. It died out like Rock Band/Guitar Hero, but people like me are still craving more and want it brought back. Being able to actually use and play as the Skylanders you buy makes the collection aspect very addicting.

While it is a blast for any age, it is the most demanding game I've played...without a doubt. In this day and age, it is normal for games to lure you into buying goodies but this is just devilish lol. On one hand I respect the marketing strategy, on the other hand I feel for the poor parents&kids getting hooked to Skylanders Imaginators because it is not an affordable addiction. Most games' digital goodies are cheap, a couple dollars here or a few dollars there. The difference between those games and Skylanders is this: physical toys that you scan into the game, costing anywhere from $15-50 or more. Not to mention, they aren't the easiest to find&obtain. If you're like me, you figure you can get through a game without buying extra unnecessary goodies. However, in Skylanders, they made it as necessary as possible to buy these toys. To prove a point...I've already bought one extra toy on the first day of playing, despite my cheapskate personality. With the standard starter pack, you will have 3 Skylanders(in-game & in real life). One water hero, one earth hero and one custom hero. The reason you are tempted into buying these toys is because there are 10 classes and 11 elements, throughout the game there are many shrines that require combinations of these class/elements. Meaning you will need to buy a toy if you wish to use this shrine. For example, if there's a fire shrine I will need to first buy a Fire Skylander toy in order to play that Fire Skylander hero so that I can use the shrine. Same goes for class(ninja, swashbuckler, sentinel etc). Every area in the game also recommends which Skylander Element to use. If the game tells me to use a Mechanical Skylander, well I can't do that until I go buy a Mechanical Skylander toy at the store lol. So, now add 300+ toys. It's no cheap task. I'd like to add, there are no digital purchases available. You must buy toys from a retailer or online merchant. If it were my way, these toys would be sold at an affordable price from the manufacturer on an official website...but its not that easy. As a parent, you might be bidding on your kid's favorite Skylander on eBay...or making a trip to Walmart with your fingers crossed. Regardless of everything I said, this can be quite the positive experience as well. Not only will it be endless entertainment for your kid, but also they will surely look forward to their next Skylander. Trading/sharing toys can make new friends at school or bring siblings/relatives together. It's a great gift idea too. Using the Skylanders phone app, there are options to print a toy or card of their customized Skylander. This can be pricey but very cool to bring your imagination to life. That said, if you are tight on money or your kid can be demanding...you may want to look at other games. I'd rather drop $15 on a new digital game rather than a toy. Oops...Let's talk about THE GAME. Skylanders Imaginators is the ideal RPG for any age. Countless armor sets, weapons, gear, monsters and bosses...hardly a stale moment. The game-play is incredibly fun, easy to pick up, fast/slow paced depending on your preference. The bosses actually require strategy, which most adult games are lacking these days. Huge amounts of heroes, all with different weapon types/abilities/talent trees. There are puzzles, mini games, hidden treasures. Many entertaining cutscenes and likeable characters. Smooth frame-rate, admirable graphics and various scenery. Definitely 5 stars in the gameplay department. There are some downsides to the game, I'd prefer the camera to be adjustable with the right joystick, instead the right joystick doesn't do anything. Of course, the lack of free Skylanders. I wish Digital Skylanders existed, I'd rather save some money and avoid toys. Who knows, maybe it would be a respectable addition since sharing toys wouldn't happen as much. Lastly, I'd like to see one of every class/element on the Starter edition, that would be an honorable thing to do. No parent/kid should feel it necessary to shell out big bucks in order to be thorough with a game. All in all, I'm an adult gamer and I've had a great time playing Skylanders Imaginators on my Nintendo Switch. I should've done research before buying it, I was looking for a game I could dedicate to Handheld mode. Unfortunately, I don't think that is Skylanders as I'd prefer not to carry toys around- in order to scan and play. Nevertheless, I'd recommend it if you aren't a casual player. Didn't realize it was a "kids" game til I already bought and was playing it. It was a good game and one of my favorite switch games at the time. It sucks that it is a cash grab to expand to everything with new skylanders including exploration, adding levels to your character, and a little more content but I guess parents buy the figurines for their kids for this to happen. It is a good buy for anyone wanting to play a solid rpg with a kid tone behind it. Hack and slash style and linear game story with side quests also

It arrived as intended but the moment I got home the box was ripped half open as if someone was trying to get into it

While the game was fun, you have to purchase all additional figures to unlock the content. Essentially about 70%-80% of the games content is stuck behind a paywall, and just feels like a gimmick to sell the skylander toys. You can play with legacy characters, but to unlock the levels, loot, and custom items you have to use a sensei of the corresponding element. Because of This, the game felt incredibly short and repetitive. I guess I was under the impression the game was going to be a lot longer and the toys would have acted as a form of DLC, but the main story can be beaten in a 4 to 6 hours first run. Unless you are an avid collector and fan of the figures, I would pass on the skylander series.

I was looking for games to play and dig out some old sky landers. Chose to put them to use by buying the newest game. This was a great buy, but the price I feel was a little much.

I got the original skylanders game for Xbox back in the day.. just recently got a Switch and was stoked to find a game for it. I was initially hesitant purchasing from a “third party seller” but the product arrived brand new and in excellent condition. The game itself is fun and i like the convenience of not having to rescan my characters once they are loaded into the game. Definitely recommend.

El paquete incluye el juego, un poster, calcas y 3 figuras que además de estar geniales puedes escanear para usar los personajes en el juego. El juego me ha encantado, la jugabilidad es buena, los gráficos no son algo muy prometedor pero son buenos, además ver personajes como spyro, crash, etc.. me hace recordar tiempos de infancia. Una excelente opción además de estar a precio accesible

Está muy divertido el juego, y está doblado, por lo que es muy padre escuchar los chistes de la historia

Divertido juego y además sigue con la tradición de poder utilizar cualquier figura de entregas anteriores. Al principio es raro no contar con la base para usar las figuras ya que usan el mismo lector NFC de los controles del Switch, pues me gustaba como prendía de colores mientras jugaba o algunas figuras brillaban mientras estaban en la base, sin embargo eso no afecta para nada el funcionamiento o calidad del juego. Recomendado si has jugado entregas anteriores pues la historia continua y solo se incorporan nuevos elementos y personajes. Y al igual que en entregas anteriores, debes obtener más figuras para aprovechar al 100 el juego y poder desbloquear nuevos caminos y secretos.

Lo compré sin saber que se debían comprar más figuras coleccionables, pero ha resultado todo un éxito y las figuras no son tan caras.
