I got this to help prevent the fish from jumping out by the feeder. However, now the fish go up into the tube and I just found one on the floor?

Fish jump, I just lost one this morning too. The point of this is to give food a chance to saturate and drop into the water column instead of getting skimmed by the overflow while still floating on top of the water. To keep fish from jumping, you need to put lids/covers over your tank.

Will it work on a tank with a rim? Pics all show it on a rimless tank.

No. I have a 75 and 55 gallon tank and the clamp is too small. Might fit on a 10 gallon tank rim but the fit would be very poor on rimmed tanks. The clamp is narrow and wouldn't have much of a grip on a shallow top part of the plastic trim. This should only be used on glass rimless tanks.

the 5 inch length does that include the clear part in the water? I have only 4 inches behind the tank. Will clamp fit with frame around the glass?

You should have room, see my pictures. I have it on a 20 gallon long and have less room then you. Although I don't use the plastic insert into the tank. With 16 fish nothing gets past them.

Why not just by a feeder with mounting hardware for about the price of this station?

I use flake food. This keeps the flakes contained until they absorb enough water to sink for the fish to eat. Otherwise the flakes just float until the ones the fish didn’t have enough time to eat get skimmed into the filter.
