Ordered this microwave after my previously one broke, arrived with a broken part so I contacted Amazon. Amazon had greater customer service but was unable to send the part and told me it had to be done by Panasonic, which shouldn't have been a big deal. I emailed Panasonic initially and was told to give it 48 hours, no response. Tried calling them, was told there would be longer then average wait times, which is no big deal I worked in a call center when I went to college so waiting on phones doesn't bother. However, I never was able to wait for a representative as it the asks you to describe the issue, upon describing the issue the voice would tell me to check the website and then end the call. Tried this 5 times on two separate days, even tried saying "I need to talk to a representative" and was told my answer could be found on their website. So logically, I went online at this point to use the online representative, got to the point they sent me an email to verify my purchase. Which I did, and was told give it 48 hours, then they never contacted me again. It could very well be the worlds greatest microwave and I will never know it because Panasonic customer support was created by someone drinking a 40oz of Windex to wash down their dinner of lead paint. Edit: Shortly after writing this review Panasonic contacted me asking for my address to send a replacement part.

I bought this unit to replace a similar GE unit that failed after just two years. This one seems to work fine other than a couple of annoying quirks. The first is only SLIGHTLY annoying: The Quick 30 button which SHOULD automatically start the unit when pressed (like most other microwaves), does not-it requires that you also press the start button. Wow, it saves one step (3--0--start, would do the same thing). The REALLY annoying quirk is the auto defrost function. After pressing the auto defrost button you are required to enter a weight in pounds and tenths of pounds. However, the minimum weight it will accept is .3 pounds, which, once you press start, equates to 3 minutes and 28 seconds of defrosting-totally useless for defrosting anything small like an English muffin, etc. You have to stand there and guess when to turn it off or risk cooking the item you are merely trying to defrost. In order to defrost for just 30 seconds or a minute, you have to press the power level button 8 TIMES(to get to power level 3), then enter the time, then press start.....like I said, really annoying and poor design!

This replaced another Panasonic Genius oven, the silver one with a dial time control. That model stopped working entirely after two and a half years, which was a big disappointment. This microwave is about 10% smaller inside and out, but is still perfectly adequate for warming up most normal-sized plates. Warms water fast, about 1.5 minutes for a near-boiling hot cup, sensor-bakes potatoes and vegetables well, and is fairly quiet. Cons include the control panel, which uses soft-touch buttons that require some pressing to register, the fact that no, the light doesn't turn on when you open the door, and that like most automatic microwaves, it's overly conservative when reheating items, making them too hot or overcooked if you're not paying attention. That said, it's a good microwave that does the job efficiently. Hope it outlasts the warranty.

First, this microwave did an okay job when it came to the basics, which is really all we use a microwave for anyway, but there were some things we just didn't like and had considered giving it away before it started arcing on us. I want to state that I keep our microwave very, very clean. It still looked brand-new, inside and out and we basically just used it to cook bacon once in awhile and reheat left-overs. Some days it didn't even get used! The arcing was underneath the glass plate around the plastic piece in the middle that the plate fits over to turn. We can't really figure out what happened but read where it could possible degrade from moisture and the coating could rust away. I have owned several microwaves over the years and have never had this kind of thing happen before. Very disappointed that our money only bought us 8 months (almost) of use. The other thing that never made any sense to me was that the light didn't come on when you opened the door. I had to take food out of the microwave to actually see if it was done! The door was tough to open too. You had to really push the button in to make it pop open. My husband complained about the same thing so it had to be REALLY hard to open. I've had other Panasonic products over the years that gave me good service, but I was so disappointed with the microwave.
