Some Like it Hot (WS/RPKG/DVD)]]> Review: Some like it funny! 4K Blu-ray of this comedy classic looks great! - The 4K Blu-ray of Some Like it Hot, one of the funniest and most beloved comedies of all time, looks great. Not mind bogglingly incredible like some 4K Blu-rays, but a pretty huge step up from any other version out in any other format. Being a film from it's time period, the film grain was a little thick for my taste, but that's the way film stock from that time period was. No way to reduce it without reducing fine detail in the picture (and the fine detail looks very good--I'm glad they didn't mess with it in any way). The addition of HDR certainly brings some welcome and very attractive "pop" and "sparkle" to the image that SDR versions will unfortunately always lack by their very nature. This is by far the best I have ever seen this wonderful movie look and I am extremely happy I made the purchase of this 4K disc. The movie itself is one of the most popular comedies of all time. In it, Jack Lemon and Tony Curtis (who's character has a reputation as an incorrigible womanizer) play prohibition era musicians who accidentally witness the St. Valentine's Day massacre and, as a result of being the only living witnesses, become hunted by the mob (who would like to turn them into "no longer living" witnesses). Since the mob is watching every bus and train station while hunting them, the only way the two musicians can come up with to escape the city under the mob's noses is to dress up as women and travel by train in the guise of the newest members to join an all woman band travelling to a job in Florida. The idea is that once they reach their destination and are safely away from the city and in Florida (where the band has their gig at a very posh resort hotel) they'll then ditch the women's clothing and skedaddle. But, then they meet the sexy and vivacious Marilyn Monroe, who simply can't be resisted by the lecherous Tony Curtis. He must have her and simply cannot fight his hormones enough to resist, even if it means keeping up the routine of being a woman in order to, counter intuitively, get close to her. And then arrives the millionaire on the scene, played by comedian Joe E. Brown, who falls head over heals for Jack Lemon while in the guise of his female alter ego Daphne. And the millionaire will not take no for an answer! He showers Jack Lemon with gifts and fancy dates so overwhelming that they actually begin to turn his head! He gets so carried away that he has to keep reminding himself over and over again that he's not actually a woman! This is one crazy, goofy, and very funny classic masterpiece of a comedy that has remained beloved by viewers over the many decades since it was first made. If you love this movie (and many, many millions like myself do), then this 4K disc is a must buy item. I can't imagine a better version ever being available. This disc is truly the penultimate version of this wonderful film. Review: Review of the blu ray version - SOME LIKE IT HOT is a classic for many reasons. The film may seem a little dated to some viewers but what keeps it forever great and irresistible are the superb performances by Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe. Filming it in black and white helped greatly to believe the two men being accepted as women. And it also helped make Marilyn stand out even more with her effervescent and transcendent beauty. But when looking at a blu ray version of a film that has seen much life on dvd a buyer must know if double dipping is really worth it. Especially where SOME LIKE IT HOT came out with a superb dvd transfer years ago. To put it simply, the film honestly looks and sounds great on blu ray and is a vast improvement over even its best dvd transfer. There is much clarity improvement in the video and the crispness in detail is vivid. Facial closeups are particular standouts. The black and white ratio is perfect and the film has not been overly enhanced or tried to be cleaned up as blu rays often are. The intended grainess is still there which adds character to the film. But seeing Tony and Jack in their female getup with the picture so clear is amazing and nothing can surpass how Marilyn comes across in this blu ray version. When she first walks by the train and the steam comes out you know what picture perfection you are in for. And every time her face appears, be it out of a train sleeping bunk or just entering a scene you can see every feature and fine detail of her face in all its glory. The picture takes on its own life when she is singing I WANNA BE LOVED BY YOU. Just the spotlight highlighting her face whenever she sings is your proof of the blu ray improvement. The sensual gift and aura that was Marilyn Monroe takes full advantage of the blu ray. And the audio is a huge improvement. The audio now is in a DTS Master 5.1 and the sound will come out all your speakers gloriously. And again the highlights are Marilyn's songs. Sadly the extras here are exactly the same as on the last dvd release. Luckily the retail price of this film is not high. Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon and particularly Marilyn give career highlight performances and it is amazing to believe the difficulties they had filming due to Marilyn's insecurities. With this film you get a fun farce with endearing performances that stand the test of time. And the blu ray is a must if you are a fan of the film or anyone in it. Highly recommended.

Jack Lemon, Tony Curtis And Billy Wilder Equals Marilyn!
Some Like It Hot (Referred to as SLIH) the best film Billy Wilder ever made. He is one of the classic directors Hollywood has ever produced and he assembled the best cast and crew ever in this film. Voted as the American Films Institutes number one best comedy of all time. SLIH is the peek of comedy at its best. With a cast that includes my favorite actor of all time - the late Jack Lemon - Marilyn Monroe and Tony Curtis, SLIH is a hysterical romp of the twenties that show two musicians running from Chicago mobsters because they saw a crime (a killing) being committed. The antics of these two musicians leads them to a three-week stint in an All Girl band. So, they dress for the occasion. Let me tell you - there nothing more funny then seeing Jack Lemon in drag. And with Curtis as the Straight-Man (I mean Straight-Women) as his sidekick - the laughs are large. Marilyn sings up a storm in this one and plays a not-so-bright blonde who is trying to stay away from Saxophone players. (They keep dumping her.) The scam works until Curtis falls in love with Sugar (Monroe) and then has to play another phony - a rich millionaire with a yacht. The DVD extras are very cool. There is a great interview with Tony Curtis on the making of the film. He is the only surviving cast and crewmember left. There is also a great interview with four of the girls in the band. They all talk about Marilyn's problems and issues and the fact that working with Billy Wilder was the best thing they had ever done. There is also a photo retrospective with a lot of behind the scenes shots. This is a must for those fans of the comedy film. This film is fun energetic and just plain laugh a lot a minute. This is definitely one of my favorite films of all time. 8-6-02

Ein Klassiker, sehenswert, unterhaltsam, witzig. Unvergesslich die Szene, in der "Daphne" und ihr/sein total verknallter Kavalier Tango tanzen oder zum Schluss der Satz "niemand ist vollkommen". Marylin umwerfend schön, umwerfend in jeder Hinsicht.
