What is the difference between the regular 16th and the X18 version?

The primary difference between the X16 and X18 versions is the capacity of the individual platters in the drive, and slight increases in the transfer rate. The maximum capacity of the platters 2TB for the X18, and 1.6TB for the X16. Transfer rates for the X18 increased to 270MB/s, up from 261MB/s for the X16.

Whats the difference between this X18 and the standard Exos 16tb?

The X18 is a newer generation of the X16. Aside from being (slightly) newer, the big difference is that the X18 uses 2TB platters, whereas the X16 uses 1.8TB platters.

Is this a retail, or is it an oem drive? what will the warranty status be?

OEM drives aren't supposed to be resold so if you ever come across one, report the seller. OEM are for system builders who sell systems. They are typically bought in bulk, have less of a warranty and sold for less cost. When you buy a system such as HP, you deal with HP when there is a problem, not the manufacturer. That's the purpose of OEM. All drives sold to consumers for personal use are supposed to be retail, and I've checked drives multiple times along with having problems with a couple and they had their full warranty. Retail drives no longer come in retail boxes, to save money so you don't have a way of knowing without checking warranty status when you get the drive. For Seagate and probably WD too, the warranty period is from date of manufacture, not date of purchase. This I'm sure has cause confusion and has led some people to think they got an OEM drive because maybe they got an older one that had sat on a shelf for a year and when they checked a warranty there wasn't much left so they assumed the warranty wasn't for the listed time stated by the company. So be aware of all that. System builders are not supposed to resell OEM drives so once again if you get one report it to Amazon and the manufacturer.
