Worked with my AVR 4.1 software
I tried LOTS of programmers, and this is the only one that works.

Works well with AVRDUDESS
Purchased this AVR USB Programmer and the AVRDUDESS free software program to replace a failed ATMega in an HF radio. It was a bit tricky at first, the OEM manufacturer had embedded a code into the original EEPROM EEP file, luckily I was able to read enough of the eep file from the old ATMega and flash into one of the new ones. This unit really saved the day !

NOT a debugger
Good: Recognized immediately by AS7 and does upload code as advertised.Bad: Does not enable breakpoints, code stepping, or register evaluation. Wish this had been made clear in the product description - would have saved about 10 hours of my life in troubleshooting a non-capability.

Waveshare wins again
I've been buying Waveshare stuff for over a decade and am really happy with their boards and accessories. I think this is the first ICE/Debugger I've gotten from them but it works like a charm. It includes lots of cables and supports both 6-pin and 10-pin Atmel ICE/Debug connections plus they include a 3rd option which is 6-pin with flying wires. This was perfect for reburning my Teensy2pp clone from scratch. There's also a spare 6-pin cable, a USB cable and a mini-CD with code that looks like it's from the Atmel Studio 5/6 days. It also contains those IDEs (I'm new to AVR, but so far I've been using the debugger with Atmel Studio 7 which I downloaded from the Microchip legacy download page).Note: as someone else mentioned, this is just an advanced programmer. In order to get real debugging features (breakpoint, single-step, etc), you need to move up to the ICE level products.
