The Domestic Dog: Its Evolution, Behavior and Interactions with People: 9781107699342: Medicine & Health Science Books @ desertcart.com Review: Answers every question about dog behavior - This book is fantastic. It aggregates the latest research on dogs. Hundreds, if not thousands of studies are referenced. It’s the most data. It also tells you whether there’s scientific consensus or not on each topic. But you should know what you’re getting into. It’s very, very science-y (you’re gonna need a dictionary for the jargon). It’s more like a textbook or encyclopedia than a regular dog book. Each chapter has a different author and different writing style (eg dog dominance is framed differently by different authors). This book is all meat. No sizzle, no bun. Just the facts, ma’am. Just Iike I like it. Review: Fascinating, comprehensive and easy to read - This is a book for both the casual and academic reader. There are innumerable references to research and writers. Don't expect a book on everyday training, feeding and the everyday chores but more what underlies their origin, evolution. And behavior. Worth reading

For technical dog training geeks
I'm a certified dog trainer and most books are written for pet owners. This book is not light reading. This book is the Bible if you are a pro trainer and just very interesting the ethology, genetics, and behavior. My last Bible was Stephen Lindsay's Volume 1 but now that book seems a little outdated, although, still should be in every trainer's library. There is updated information on the socialization period, now referred to as the 'sensitive period'. This book will be my reference for years to come.

Kind of boring
I was expecting a better book. Adam Miklosi's book dog Behavior, Evolution and Cognition has similar information but is written a lot better.

Wonderful book for a trainer, ethologist or dog owner who wants to understand the most up to date information on dog cognition, emotion and basically how to give dogs a wonderful life by understanding their needs rather than merely trying to shoe-horn them into our world. Wonderful book, highly recommend

Brilliant book with a massive amount of up to date summaries of recent as well as past research. A great way to keep up-to date with what is happening in the area of canine research. Very highly recommended.

This is a science heavy book for students, and it's a great reference. It's not a dog training book for the average owner

I did buy this book mostly to learn about behaviour and ecology of dogs returning to the wild and so subject to natural selection but instead the so-call feral dogs described are not true self reproducing ferall dogs populations but stray dogs who are almost entirely dependent on garbage dumps and NOT self reproducing , maintaining theyr population only by the comming of new stray dogs.
