Whale of a Scale
The 'Whale Scale' is a very fine scale, probably the best 11-pound scale under twenty dollars. It is accurate: Multiple measurements using 4-7 gram weights were within 1-2 grams (non-scientific: weights intended for high-end mouse, could themselves be slightly inaccurate), and it was also spot-on with a couple of "3 pound" exercise weights. It had no trouble with close to 7 pounds of weights, which judging by feel (my exclusive previous mode of measurement!) is more weight than I typically measure (e.g. kitchen, postal shipping). The scale seems fairly well-made and weighty, with a matte grey plastic exterior (measuring about 8.5 x 6.5 x 1.5 in, a bit larger but lower-profile than I'd imagined) and 6 small rubber feet resulting in good stability. It also features a very pleasant blue-backlit display (measuring about 2.5 x 1 in) and a faux 'brushed stainless steel' (plastic?) top weighing platform. The unit is simple to use, the actions/buttons (On/Off, Tare, Unit) performed flawlessly, and it shut down automatically as stated. What more can I ask for? Comes in a generic-style box (see pictures) with adequate instructions and two AAA batteries. Country of production is unclear. Recommended.

Whale Scale
Worked great for a few weeks. Then the display died except the right hand digit which says 7 all the time. Changing the batteries of no help. Seller did not answer phone for warrenty service. Recommend not trading with this seller. Amazon made it right.

solid scale
Accurate, very large display and easy to use. Product shipped was used. LCD protector was half peeled off and scratches on stainless steel platform.

It's a good solid scale .....
First the bad: If you find your scale behaving erratically, here's what you need to do.Probably when replacing or installing the batteries... the platter gets shifted / bumped.. against the case.. wherein it no longer moves freely due to being affected by the case rubbing against it ... hence the erratic numeric display as the case is flexed by button pressing. You need to center the platform in the square opening in the cover ...Simply grasp the base with one hand and the platform with the other and move it about till it no longer touches any sides of the base cover. If when you press either of the buttons... the display still shows fluctuating numbers, going + and - display showing other than zeros ... than the cover is still touching against the platform somewhere and you need to try again... the key presses are flexing the cover and it's moving the platform up and down where it's touching against it. The pictures are off. The display is not vertical as it appears to be in the pics, it is almost horizontal / parallel with the platform. If you place an object larger than the platform on the scale, you cannot read the display. Not a problem though.... for larger items just raise them from the platform with a spacer and tare the scale. The directions state ... that to turn the unit off... press and hold the tare button for some seconds... I would recomend just leaving it be... the back light turns itself off in 8 seconds and the scale shuts off completely in 55 seconds. I still have the original supplied batteries in it... used 3 times daily for years, and 5 years later still working with those batteries. I would recommend therefore replacing those with high end lithium batteries.. since regular cheap batteries tend to leak out corrosives after some time. I would guess the lithium batteries would last ones lifetime at the meager current drain this scale places on batteries. The good:The scale itself and the functioning and accuracy of the scale are excellent.the scale is a bargain at this price. I'm happy with it.... the display is bright, large and easy to read. It's very accurate and looks good.

Not for Small Quantities
I bought this scale for measuring out hops and priming sugar when brewing beer. I've gotten by with this, but haven't exactly been pleased. I've added as much as an ounce to the scale without having it register any weight at all and the scale changes its reading pretty drastically depending on where the item is placed (I've had it vary 2oz between positions). If you are measuring large quantities and don't mind being off by an ounce or two then this scale will be great, otherwise look elsewhere.

I took a chance and it paid off.
The price was right on and I like the stainless steel top. I installed the supplied AAA batteries and it worked perfectly. Rock solid on the counter top and the back lit display is a nice touch. It is simple to use and seems dead on accurate. I am hard to impress but this for twice the money would still be a good buy.

Great scale - does everything I want it to do for less $
A really good product at a really good price. I use this scale for home brewing so I need to be able to measure accurately in both ounces (for hops) and pounds (for grain). This nifty little scale has done all of that for me at an attractive price. I don't know if it is the highest quality scale out there - I can't tell if the wrinkled plastic over the LCD screen is supposed to come off or not and I'm afraid to pull it to find out, however I can read it so I don't really care. I like the blue backlighting, it makes it easy to read. And the scale shuts itself off after a period of time which is a great battery saver. So far so good!
