Causes microwave error
Updated again: I have the red one at home, and brought the dark grey container to work, but am not able to use it in the microwave at work because for some reason it sets off an electrical storm in the microwave - as if I put metal in the microwave, but I didn't. At first I blamed it on the Popcorn setting and thought the microwave had an error, but now I can't use it on any setting without this happening. I have never had the problem with the red one when used at home - only with the dark grey one. Previously Updated Review: This product is a little stiff when it first arrives, which causes the lid flaps to flip open while popping and popcorn ends up all over the microwave. However, after the first time it happened, I worked the lid flaps at the crease several times, and really folded them down towards the center of the container, so that they would stay closed better. This is something that could have been done prior to first use, had I known what the issue was. I am so glad I fixed the issue, because there is no other "single serve" popping container on Amazon, that I could find. The popcorn comes out really nice and crispy/crunchy/light. Since I'm using it at work, and trying to be healthy, I use a spray dispenser to spray the popcorn with olive oil, then salt it directly in the container. Very tasty! (p.s. at home I use a spray dispenser with butter when indulging). So the container is the perfect size for me to enjoy popcorn directly from the popper. Yes, there are quite a few kernals leftover, but for me that is fine because if all of those popped, this would be a little more than my idea of a single serve. And they warn you not to use less popcorn than the fill line or it will burn - so those kernals are helping to fill what I would have as a void if I was popping fewer, if that makes any sense. I love this little thing. Old Review: The lid flaps won't stay down while popping, and popcorn was flying all over the microwave. I had to stop the microwave a few times, and the stopping and starting the microwave to try to put the lid back down or find some way to cover it with a paper towel didn't help the popping process. Ultimately the popcorn burned, which has only happened to me when I stop and start it in the middle of popping. So, I won't be using this at work again.

Doesn't work
I'm a committed JosephJoseph brand groupie, and have many of it's products that I 100% love. This one is, sadly, a fail—not sure if the one I received is defective or if it's just the product design itself. The flaps just do not stay closed, defeating the entire purpose of this product. They immediately open as soon as the popcorn starts popping, spewing kernels and popped popcorn all of the microwave. If the flaps stayed close, this would be 4 stars—perfect size for individual snacking, dishwasher safe, aesthetically pleasing, and a small footprint. I've resorted to not closing the flaps and just putting the black popper upside down on top of the orange popper to create a very tall lid to contain the popcorn and prevent them from erratically escaping all over the microwave. Yes, that fixes the problem...but defeats the purpose. I do not recommend spending your money on this.

Consistent Popping
This product right out of the gate is very simple to use and very self explanatory. The kernels go in and are measured perfectly and the popcorn comes out tasting great every time! The one concern and issue ever so often is one of the flaps begins to open during popping losing kernels all over the microwave but other than that this is a really well made product and very easy to clean.

Personal popcorn popper
This is perfect for making one serving of popcorn. I haven't had problems with it opening too soon but I did notice that one flap tends to pop open more readily when prepping it. I just close that flap first and the other flap seems to hold it closed until the rising popcorn forces it open. The taste of the freshly made popcorn can't be beat! You may need to use a little less popcorn if you use a good quality popcorn that pops up nice and fluffy. Place the popper in the center of the carousel, if your microwave has one, or all the popcorn that spills out WILL end up in the corners of the oven and under the carousel. DO NOT LET YOUNG CHILDREN USE THIS UNSUPERVISED. This gets extremely hot. We let it sit in the microwave for a couple of minutes after turning the oven off so we don't get burned. Also, our microwave overheated and shut off for a few minutes when we made two batches of popcorn back to back.

Joseph Joseph needs some quality control on their silicone machine
I saw these at Whole Foods and though they were a great idea, so I bought them. I like them. I think they pop popcorn well, at least once you do some trial and error with ingredients and your microwave and the poppers themselves. I like that I can make a single serving of popcorn. The built-in measuring device works pretty well, and it's easy to clean. I like that it's one piece. And although it's not specific to this popper, it's nice to be able to customize your popcorn with any combo of fat (coconut oil! olive oil! butter!) and seasonings (cheese! salt! more butter! spicy stuff!) that you want. However, of the two I bought, the flaps on the orange one don't stay down, and the flaps on the grey one only stay down if I put the "top" flap (the one with the logo on it) on the bottom and put the "bottom" flap on the top. This seems to be some sort of manufacturing defect with either the thickness or width of the "seams" where the flaps fold down. The orange one not working properly is why I took two stars off. If they both worked as well as the grey one, I'd give this product 5 stars. A couple tips: 1) If you find that your popper pops open too soon and starts spewing greasy, molten-hot popcorn kernels over your microwave, dampen a paper towel and put it over the top of the popper before you start the microwave. That way, even if one flap pops open too soon, the paper towel will stop any rogue kernels. This is the only way I've been able to use my orange popper, and frankly, it helps with the grey popper too, just because occasionally kernels pop out of the side vents (also, if you overfill the popper, it contains the overflow.) 2) I think adding oil or butter makes the popcorn taste about 100x better. So yes, you can add oil and it still works just fine. It doesn't take a lot; I think I usually use about half a teaspoon of butter, although I think you could get away with less. 3) Usually I add the kernels and butter/oil, then heat the whole thing up for 20 seconds to melt the butter. Add a seasoning (I mix salt with a turmeric seasoning that's delicious but stains everything yellow -- https://amazon.com/dp/B079W3DLZL/ref=twister_B07D3NZPXG), stir it up, put a paper towel over the top, then back in the microwave for 2 minutes and 30 seconds. At work, I found that the microwave would start burning the popcorn before most of the kernels were popped, so I set that microwave to 90% power. At home, I can use full power. The popcorn is usually done with 30-45 seconds left on the timer, but it's important to listen for it and watch it carefully.

An honest review of a good product.
I’ve made several batches of popcorn with these. Admittedly there is a learning curve. 1. The instructions (yes…I read them which I doubt most reviewers have) and they call for 40g of unpopped corn which coincidentally is the serving size of Orville Redenbacher’s. I found that was too much. What seems to work best in my microwave is 38g. 2. A couple of drops of oil improves the popping. I mean DROPS! Just enough to lightly coat the corn. 3. I have had no trouble with the flaps not staying down. My guess is people aren’t folding them far enough down. They will unfold midway through the popping process. That is the design. 4. Yes, you will get a few pieces that pop out. Big deal! I’ve had air poppers blow popcorn all over the counter. 5. I get very few “old maids” (unpopped kernels). I get more with bagged microwave popcorn. 6. Like microwave bags when the popping stops you are done. So judge for yourself. If you buy this product don’t get upset with the initial results. Different microwaves = different results. Different brands of popcorn = different results (I used Orville Redenbacher’s white corn). So experiment a bit. It’s not like it’s costing a fortune to pop 38g of popcorn. You’ll get the hang of it and enjoy the results!

I wish it worked better...
The folding lid is the issue. It is too unstable and opens prematurely. This causes a nice mess in the microwave of streaming un-popped and popped kernels - it needs a certain amount of popped kernels to form before the lid opens, so it will naturally block the projectiles from streaming out.. The fill level is too much as well - I have to place the unit on a wide bowl or container to catch the overflow. I could fill less, but then I probably wouldn't bother. It technically does work, though, but I'm not sure if it is worth the hassle.

Microwave gave off heat!
I had another 2 serving brand that worked great, so I gave it to my son for his kids and thought I would buy another. I saw these and liked the single serving. First attempt had very hot unpopped kernels popping all over the microwave. Tried again and had to stop prematurely because too flap opened and had popped corn flying inside microwave. Next two tries I got it just right however I felt heat coming out on the bottom of the microwave door. MUST let set for one minute as instructed or burn your fingers. 3 minutes to cook and one minute to set for about 2 cups of popped corn. Too much time for two people to have very small portions. The Joie Microwave Popcorn Maker was far better.
