Tested Under (Lightning) Fire
Lightning struck 3 houses down and fried our modem through the coax line, which also caused the ethernet-in port on our router to go dead. My computer, however, was protected with the APC Back-UPS Pro 850VA and was totally isolated (thank you wi-fi!) I could hear it click over into emergency power as soon as I saw the lighting flash, so I consider this to be tested under fire. The companion software is visually bare-bones but otherwise works great with Windows 11, the app runs quietly in the background and doesn't use much of anything, and is very programmable with the UPS. For mine, if the power is out for 60 seconds, my computer is sent a command to hibernate. Maybe less important, but I hear this protecting my computer from 'dirty power' at times as well. Outside of the regular testing interval, I hear the relays click on the rare occasion the lights slightly dim as well. Unit has been in service for 3.5 years and still performs wonderfully. I like how it's incredibly quiet (UPS of old would alarm annoyingly).

Good product, disappointing (Supplier) support
This is my 2nd APC UPS backup. The first is over two years old and has performed flawlessly supporting a high-end workstation. I bought this 2nd, somewhat smaller model for my office PC. I was pleased with my purchase for six weeks until the first blackout intervention due to a thunderstorm. The UPS did not survive, when the power was restored the device insisted there was a short on the output, which of course there wasn't. The total load on the output is less than 30% of the rating, but even with the load removed it still alarmed. This began a three week adventure: - Amazon does not allow a defective return-replacement (because of the batteries I assume). Beware. - APC has a 3 year warranty but their support process is agonizing. I spent several hours in chat-windows answering inane questions like 'Is it plugged in?' or 'Are you sure there is no short on the output?' At one point the agent (who was obviously multi-tasking) picked the wrong chat-window to type to another customer. That was interesting to sort out. - I finally found someone with a brain who started a swap-process. APC would send a replacement and I would return the defect. - The replacement arrived 10 days after the failure event. I installed it and everything was fine. I re-packaged the defect in the shipping box. But there was no information about where to send it. - Another week passed before I got an email with a pre-paid return label as a pdf attachment. I assume the original item was an infant-mortality so Five Stars for the product. Battery life is over 20 minutes with my load and the PowerChute software puts the system to sleep before the UPS runs dry. It's an imperfect world: screws fall out. Time will tell if this was an isolated event or a chronic problem, but up to now I am optimistic.

Never choose Amazon same day delivery!
Never choose Amazon same day delivery. I have used this option 3 times and every time I received four or more days later. Use the next day option instead and you will most likely get it on time. The APC UPS is great! EZ to install and has already saved my computer at least 4 times. My area suffers from momentary power loss where the power shuts off then return a second later. It has already cost me two computers, three video cards and one monitor in the last 6 months. I bought this to stop the damage it causes by sudden power loss then voltage spikes when power returns. Paid top dollar for surge protectors and it did no good. If you want true protection for your equipment buy this. You can download software from APC web site that allows your computer to shut down properly in the event a power failure would exceed the battery time of the UPS. Make sure you buy one that will supply enough wattage to power the equipment you plan on hooking up to it. also make sure it is rated PFC compatible as some computers require this to work correctly with a UPS. It is now the 1st of January and so far this UPS has saved my computer from 5 power losses. No lost files and no excessive wear and tear on equipment. Highly recommend this.

Support is rudderless and the software is not great
I had a situation where there is a line voltage drop when a printer kicks on. Even with the sensitivity control turned down on the APC, it still threw an event for under-voltage and went on battery. Even getting to this point took their technician a half hour. I was guided through a collection of useless exercises. I am a software architect and I am amazed that they have no good diagnostic tools. So, the hardware is good so far, but the rest speaks for itself.

Have trusted APC UPS'es for years
UPDATE 09/20/2023 Back to purchase my 3rd BX850. The first two that I purchased are still going strong, albeit with replacement batteries, which is to be expected every 4 years or so. APC UPSes are still my go-to UPS. PROS: o Shows load, runtime, and etc o Keeps critical equipment powered on during power failures so it can be shut down gracefully o Protects critical equipment from commercial power line spikes and surges Have entrusted my equipment over the years to APC UPSes. Never had a problem for over 30 years. Would not hesitate to recommend this APC UPS products to friends and family... oh, wait, I already have, more than once !!! :-) Although I will admit that thickness, sheerness, and WIFI signal have NEVER been criterion that I have used to rate my UPSes, in stark contrast to Amazon's rating system...

Very nice quality
I've owned many APC products over the years (mainly UPS devices for servers) and they have always performed well. This unit is a nice size for a home office computer. The menus allow you to configure sensitivity which is nice. Attaching the battery leads when you first get the unit is a little sketch but once you get the main power wire to settle down then it's fine. Lead acid type battery, so it's rather heavy. APC used to provide a Lithium based solution (which I've used also) and i tend to prefer that. This model is nice also for the cost. I like how the screen shows minutes remaining.

For the average Jo, it's Ok. But for a professional whoo needs more run time , not so much . I have a 100W load that's need to be powered for a very long period of time on battery, so I've swap the 9A/H battery with a 45A/H battery. Same chemistry type battery. The problem is the internal software of the unit is based on a 9AH battery . So no matter size battery you have , you will always get the run time of a 9AH battery ... Also when it runs on battery with no load, the unit draws 8 watts on the battery .Its to consider when you calculate the run time of a load .

Really nice shape. Decent display. Plenty of power. Compared to CyberPower this is much nicer. No stinky smells or burning smells. Only real issues are the plugs are too close to each other at the back. The coax cable and Ethernet ports on the back are useless as well since nobody uses these because they create latency and issues with speed and signal loss. No need for these on any UPS. My model is the 850VA. Price is a bit high as well, but quality seems decent. We shall see how long it lasts.

I bought this device to ensure stable power supply in times when Windows OS does critical updates and power should not be interrupted. Just in case power loss in a very bad timing. This device produces a noise while it is working. And even though the noise is not very laud, it is quite annoying. So I think i will end up using it only when the risk of power loss is high, which is not quite convenient, since I will have to connect/disconnect the battery every time I would want to use/bypass it. UPDATE: Had to return it. I can't focus on my work because of that noise.

Just bought this recently and received it yesterday. Bought for my aquarium to keep filter and heater running in case of power outages (which we have a lot of in winter). Easy to use. Just plugged it in, plugged the filter/heater in the backup sockets. Tested it by unplugging the unit...filter kept flowing with no interruption. If I think of it, I'll give another review in 6 months or so after I've had it all winter. So far so good. Update (Feb 9/19): Had the power go out a few times and it kept the HOB filter of my aquarium running without interruption for hours. I only have the HOB plugged in as that's the most important, especially if I'm not home and HOBs don't use much power so this can keep mine running for hours and hours.
